You use the word 'amateur' a bit loosely there Danger, with what you pay to players, you might want to re-word that.

Classic, jealosy has set in already! Heard Mal Williams had a tear in his eye at the tribunal hearing, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Friendly banter between lofty & barker on the rise
No idea what barker players are earning, but you wouldnt pay $250 for s.nunan? Id suggest thats pretty cheap considering some of rediculous payments lesser players are earning around the place.
Who cares about $'s ??? Lets play footy cause we love it!!!

mate of mine tells me Birdwood held a player secret ballot, to determine their leadership group this year. What do people think of this?

My oppinion... If you need to put things to a vote obviously no real standout! From what i heard, .......Nah, doesn't matter!!!

I feel a secret ballot could work if there is a select group of candidates nominated then the playing group votes on who they would like as a captain. I have been at a club that did this before and seemed to work. You get a group of nominees selected for their leadership skills by the coaching staff and board, then the player selected is determined by the players... most people should be happy with the result. A pretty democratic approach IMO

Hey beeched, it was hardly a "secret ballot"!! The players mentioned at the end of last year that they wouldn't mind having a say in who were the captains - so the players sat around and voted 3,2,1 for their choice of captains. The coaches will then take these votes on board in deciding the captains for the A grade. And I think you'll find that the players choice will be pretty much the same as the coaches.

Nothing too spectacular really - i've seen it be done at quite a few other clubs i've been too actually.

Do any other clubs do anything similar or is just the coaches that pick the captains?

Tough one, chook. I reckon if you look at who runs onto the park for Lofty nowadays, the '$$$' argument is not a strong one ie there are a lotta locals. Me thinks your Ronnie Roos might have to dish out some coin to entice some guys up the hill to play in that sess pool this year though. Or is it the Concordia Roos???

I went out to watch a mate play for lofty on the wkend all the way out at golden grove to play Modbury in thier trial.
From what i saw, Lofty were very under man but still put up a very good contest to an almost full strength Modbury outfit who ran all day and were very competitive.
I saw Lofty play in the 20/20 comp a couple of week back and looked to have sum key players missing on the weekend who would have straightened them up abit more.
Wasnt keeping score at all but overall a good hit out before a camp this wkend, confirm 'ohhh i dunno'?

Don't know if anyone can confirm this but a bloke from Mt Barker told me there aren't too many umpires training. He reckons we might be back to club umpires in B Grade. I thought the new coach was going to fix that issue!

Not a very convincing win considering their opponent.OSB/Lonsdale lost a few games by 40 goals last year i think. Ironbank missing a few?

From what i can understand, they now have Goal umpires out at umpires training. Even Ajax will be pulling on HFL colours so in that case you would hope numbers would be on the up... From what i saw last year club umpires couldn't be much worse then some what the HFL present on a Saturday!!!

Great maybe they can give the club goal umpire from ONkas a bit of fine tuning? Fair dinkum he called a goal last year that would have missed by a metre and a half.

Yes we Goal Umpire have had a light training run, just to touch up on our finesse etc. At least we won't be wearing white this year, as we will all be dressed in yeallow shirts.

Guess the white maggots term will be replaced with yellow canaries.
