Should be a good night, oval is in good shape, might even be a bit of a crowd there. I'm still disappointed we're not playing at Locheil though. I reckon everyone in the city has it too easy. People have seriously said that clubs should be kicked out the league for having shared showers!

The Hummocks boys will be looking for individual shower cubicles when they are put to shame by the new boy Joe Hunt.

Trial match news for tonight. Kilburn will only have 6 players from last year playing, half of those A grade and half B graders who are looking to step up. The rest will made up of available new players. Will be a big challenge against a Hummocks team that has played together for a while.

We’ll ill get some excuses ready now too then…..HWE will be missing quite a few also with work commitments and injuries, only 22 players available including a few colts as of last night, also heard a Jaz Wilson is umpiring at this stage too (probably due to knee).

Didn't expect HWE to be anywhere near full strength. Good that a few colts will get a hit out.

Here is the Big Shrek's wrap up of the game.

HWE came out firing, obviously inspired by the return to football of 'The Jack'. Looked very smooth moving the ball and kicked the first four goals. Jared Wilson umpired shockingly and missed all the free kicks that should have been paid to the Big Shrek, including a holding the ball decision that should have been paid against Youngy. Three changes of direction is prior opportunity Jazz! Another highlight of the first quarter was the Shrek's attempt at goal. Running at a wise cracking Ryan Reid I boldly stated "I'm going to kick this!" The prophecy was fulfilled as I proceeded to kick it.... out on the full. Tim Trussell had the ball on a string and new HWE recruit Hunt was dominating taking high flying marks all over the ground.

Kilburn hit back winning the second quarter by a couple of goals. It looked like Hummocks were running out of puff(with the sole exception of Matt Higgs) with a couple of injuries leaving them without a bench. The Shrek gave Youngy a corky this quarter and the old man limped off, presumably to return to his paddock and produce some more offspring and never to be seen again. Young Jazz Manners also went walkabout round about then after copping an elbow to the back of the head requiring stitches.

Roughly more of the same in the next two quarters, more accountability by Kilburn and a depleted HWE side running out of puff meant Kilburn ended up winning by a few goals.

Good hit out for both sides with Hummocks playing a few colts and only 2 players from last year's prelim final for Kilburn playing.

Best players for HWE were probably Trussell, who despite making jokes about his age and fitness level was probably the most nimble bloke out there, and Hunt was spectacular and should dominate the APFL. Other highlights were Amos Wilson's boisterous boundary umpiring and the call from the Kilburn supporters "You're ******* blind you white maggot". Good to see the fans getting stuck into the umpires this early in the year.

Looks like Youngy will be out most of the year again. Poor old fella!

Nice wrap up Shrekkie. It's almost like I was there.

Thanks Droppy. All we needed was someone to take some photos and it could have made the Producer!

Haha! Never. A good summer on the cricket pitch serves him well! I'm just saying Jack needs to eat sausage rolls to balance out the beer intake. What do you think Jack?

Sorry MC, I meant HWE were smooth and kicked the first four goals. Not that The Jack isn't smooth though.

Ha ha, bakes from the missus are a regular occurrence rather than a highlight. Glad you enjoyed it though.

I wish Droppie! I haven't had a pastry for some time now! :( That probably had more to do with the staff at the bakery than any desire to give up sausage rolls. I don't care for lemon flavoured baked goods! Although there are new owners there now...

All this talk about pastries, what are the chances of me seeing MC stroll past for morning smoko???? :D
