norwoods trial games, is it a problem ???

Postby bayman » Mon Mar 02, 2009 9:22 pm

i am led to believe all norwoods trials are under lights, so with this being the case is that a problem considering the majority of their games will played be during the day, i realise they (all clubs train mainly in the evening) but simulating games is different to training, lets face it they don't play finals at night (yet)

btw i love the night games & think there should be one every week of the season
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I wouldn't think so mate, but obviously time will bring the answer on that one ... In recent years we've had problems playing well/winning the night games, so it might prove a bonus, again, hard to know.

I can't see an SANFL game being played on Mt.Barker oval. It is the worst oval in the hills.

I think they were trying to play at Cornerstone College. Oval was surfaced by old mate Les Burdett about 5 years back and David Parkin was there as a consultant as well.

I'm pretty sure no lights though....

I actually raised it as an issue last year. I would like to see us play a couple of games away from home to get used to the bigger Ovals as I really beleive it hurt us last year. Of course you could argue that our record at home is not that good so we need as muhc practice as possible under those conditions.

My honest opinion is if you are good enough, you'll win anywhere on most occasions.

that is almost correct ah but conditions do play a part like a very top heavy forward line doesn't work in the rain, wet & boggy ground etc etc

norwood games under lights are great, remember a few years ago now a game between norwood and Port, the legs won by a point, but the port players reckoned they scored and goal with like 10 seconds to go, but cant think of the players name from norwood but he marked it on the goal line at the parade end and Norwood won by a point. best game of AFL i have seen!!!!

I remember the game you're talking about, think it was 98' IIRC and the saving Norwood mark (from the Hill at least) looked to be very suspect to say the least.

yeah it was the game where the siren stopped working after half time, and the only way we knew the game had finished , firstly me and me mates where listening to it on radio and started celebrating, everyone in the grandstand looked at us weirdly, and second the coaches walked onto the ground etc. then everyone knew it was over....port supporters werent to happy at the result !!! sucked in to them

Yep 98 it was. Stephen Pitt I reckon it was stopping the ball on the line. But I reckon it was going thru for a point rather a goal to tie the game. Was in southern stand behind the goals.
When I saw the crowd in the western stand raise their arms in celebration, thats when I knew the siren went.

I was in the western stand when beinke kicked that goal after the siren. Siren definately went before he kicked the ball.
