HFL Division 1 (Central)

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

GD - let's not turn this into a Lofty Vs Uri's site. I agree with some of what you said ie Uraidla have been up the right end of the ladder for a while, good consistent efforts.
But You can't keep referring to 'chequebook Charlies'. Aren't Wait and Trigger in their second year at Lofty?
As for the lights being there for a few years, correct. Lofty's keeness to play at night only being recent, totally incorrect. The concept was not embraced by other clubs other than the odd game (Ironbank, possibly others). Lofty was keen from the start to get the concept going and the HFL to lead the way in night fixtures.
In and Under comes from a strong club and sees the future in lights.
But I also agree with an earlier post, shouldn't be over-used.

I believe that Ironbank have played every game at Heathfiled at night for the last 3 maybe 4 years?

They will have learnt their lesson from 1996 when both Birdwood and Ironbank had unsuccessful campains in division 1. Can't wait to play on the velodrome, some div1 clubs may find it interesting playing there!

dropkick insread of the constant mtlofty bagging you should probably just stick to reading the budget and looking at the ladders. top in both grades mate id say thats pretty super. unless youve got some kind of well thought out response u should probably stay quiet. be keen to hear from u after the finals.

Birdwoo oval, the SUPER BOWL. They will struggle first couple of years, but ther juniors aren't to bad, so they would be aiming to be very competitive in around 3 or 4 years. Do you think Matty Coad and co who transferred to play Div 1 footy with lobey will return to Birdwood, Coad is a decent CHF.

Birdwood oval...........slight uphill (no where near as bad as Heathfield) but both wings are higher than the centre circle.........by a long way! I would hate to play cricket there, balls wouldn't run to the boundary, they would start rolling back towards the pitch  . Gets a bit boggy at the bottom end goal square to CHF from what I remember but it is a nice big oval, close to Lobethal size I would reckon, maybe only a little bit smaller? It's been a while.

Is chopper Westley playing at birdwood or Kersbrook? I remember when he played for Lobethal and made a appearance for the mighty Hills Hoists!

I found it very surprising to hear that Birdwood will be joining central from 2007. They have been at the pointy end of the ladder in country for quite a few years now, but without bringing home any hardware. Lets hope they can be competitive in the big league. It can be quite demoralising getting thumped week in and week out.

Another interesting fact, When birdwood come up against the boys from heatfield, who will be wearing the red & white gurnsey?

i think birdwood actually wear the nth adel red with white V. but i suppose it would be still too tough. ud think lofty would stay the same since theyre not the new team, but it may come down to whos been red and white longer. which i dont know???

They used to play finals there, not sure now but I can't see why not, it is not that bad an oval once you get over the Daytona style boundary line.
The point about the jumpers is interesting. When Meadows rejoined the Hills League they kept their Green and Gold even when playing Ironbank but their jumper is mainly Green where Ironbank has a lot more Gold mixed in. Birdwood now wear the old North Adelaide style all Red with a White V I think so will the league deem that to be enough difference for them to keep it all year? I would imagine Mt. Lofty vs Nairne Bremer would have been a similar situation back in the old days? Perhaps that is why Birdwood went from the red and whit stripes to the "big V"?

I'd say that when they play the away team would be supplied with alternate guernseys. Maybe sturt ones.

So if birdwood come up, no team will be dropping down?? Is that how it would work? Because no doubt they would choose the bottom team in this case Ironbank yet the A's have been more than competitive of late with a young side. and their lower grades are all in finals. Just wondeinrg. Fingers crossed

What would be the fiercest rivalry in hills football??

There won't be any relegation at the moment, now it will be a ten team competition which I thought was what the League has wanted for a while now. If any other team from Country want to step up in the future then the league would look at it then I would imagine.

For rivalry in the hills Mt Lofty / Ironbank would be up there? Maybe Ironbank / Blackwood? Or Ironbank / Neville Clarke?maybe Ironbank / HFL :P

i think the idea of bringing birdwood up to central is to create two 10 team leagues i.e country i believe has 11 at the moment with central having 9.

from my point of view i thought the lofty bridgy rivalry used to be the fiercest but it has lost alot of the appeal over the last few years (5-6) because of our sides struggling. u loose some of the bite when ur only fighting to see which is the worst side in the league (not whos the best).

There has been numerous debates regarding sides bringing in paid players. AL I can say is that all teams are paying players. We on this forum will never know who is getting what and how many are paid. Its all speculation and rumour. But all I can say is that who ever is getting paid. Good on them. I know many players would love to gte paid playing a great sport such as football. The point I am trying to make is that regardl;ess of who is paying who, the Hills have a great competition now and is probably arguably the strongest country footy division in SA. I reckon the league should be congratulated considering the Hills was branded as a wet, boggy slow crap league.
How good is footy!
