On Friday night Onkas defeated Flinders O'Neil's to take out the Pre-Christmas Cup in slippery conditions down at St Mary's. Cant recall the score, but it was a close and often heated affair, Onkas having too many experienced Gaelic players in the end.

Perhaps Onkas will see the return of Wade Saunders (knee recon) after Christmas, so Onkas should be a huge chance of challenging the recently dominant Western Ireland.

Flinders should be around the mark as well, I thought they looked pretty good but their fairly dominant soccer background cost them IMHO, as they preferred to play the ball on the ground too often which cost them some under scoring opportunities.

From what i have seen onkas will be too strong. Na Fiana will come home well, but the think the mountain goats could struggle with all the pre season footy camps , trial games and traininings.

St Brendans left it late, but rocketed home a late under in injury time to come from behind and defeat the Irish Australians... any other results from round 1...??

western ireland beat flinders in a very physical game. think the score was mountain goats 4:12 to flinders 0:4. good first up win by the goats

last week before the finals begin. top 2 will not change and it will be tough to see 3rd and 4th change as well. so the first week of the finals will be:

onkas vs Na Fiana

western ireland Vs St Brendans

quailty finals games there

onkas shouldnt have too many problems disposing of Na Fianna.

You would think Western irelands should take care of business against St Brendans. Altho IF the "taints" can get a full squad on the park then they might cause a surprise or 2....thats a big if tho.

looks like onkas will take it out this year. as both western ireland and st brendans both have been struggling to fill sides. footy trainings and pre season camps have taken there toll on the 2 clubs by the sound of things

TD ill be fronting up from 5pm.... and if you were thinking of attending this great day id advise you to come AFTER the womens match too - with your recent history of being physically assaulted by women it could be a dangerous place for you...!!

St Brendans completed their "from rags to riches" journey by defeating Na Fianna in the State League Grand Final on Sunday. The mighty Taints didnt win a game in the pre-season cup, but came good at the right time of the season to take out the Hannigan Cup for the first time since 2004.

Onkas defeated Irish Blues by 1 point in the womens Grand Final.

Well done CT on the win on Sunday afternoon. I couldnt get out there to watch but i see you guys did it pretty easily in the end.

What happened to Robbie Barrachina? Did he play?

Already looking forward to next season and hopefully us Mountain Goats can atone for a disappointing finish to the season!!!

Cheers BJ. Yeah we got up by a bit in the end, after a close and nervey start! Then locked in to an epic bender that ended up with a few seedy blokes wearing their rank smelling St Brendans tops around Future Music festival the next day...

LOL Barra clearly had NO FAITH in the mighty Taints - he booked a holiday to Queensland over finals time!!! He is devo about it!

BJ as a southerner and a member of Safooty.net you should be lining up for the Taints next season... ill PM you a clearance form!

Who from WI have put away the boots this year Schimma..?

St brendans i think will retain all of their team from last year. Clayton Lush has indicated he will be back on deck for this season so should be a handy inclusion.

Looking forward to the season - great sport and a fantastic way to keep fit and play competitive sport without too much risk of major injury.

Yep bring on summer and the Gaelic season!

Team news - i heard rumors that Chris Carey (gun player) has left Irish Australians, as he has started up a NEW Men's State League Club, based around the Mitcham Footy Club! If true it will be interesting to see how they go, and great to see a new team competing in the State League.

I also see the Gaelic Association has finally upgraded its website! Looks the goods too, check it out at www.gaelicfootballsa.com.au

Does anyone have any tips on how the 3 state teams will go at the nationals in melb next week...
Im pretty confident all 3 teams will make the semis and at least one of the 3 will play in a national final.
