Im assuming its a different council at Wayville?
Would love to see Sturt there.

I think it is still the Unley Council in the Wayville area. They are a hard council to deal with.

Sure is. Unley council ward map here

Difference with Wayville is that the oval is owned by the Royal Show Society not the council.
Plenty of parking on site
Having another night venue would be great, only issue is that with a track around the outside you are a long way back from the Oval.
Chris Kendall once mooted the idea of having a SANFL game as part of the Royal Show.
Maybe the first friday before the horses get on it could work, would just need home and season ticket holders to still get some access.
If nothing else would be a good promotion taking the game to the people.

The problem is, the oval is much smaller than any current venue. The trotting track would have to go if there were to be SANFL played on it.

Plenty of posters are making comparisions between the Parade and Unley Oval, yet its worth pointing out that the two Oval are very much differently geographically located, The Parade is bordered by a School, various Business and Churches all of whom are far less impacted in what could be termed a negative sense as some Unley residents may see things. Yes there is still car parking outside of private residences, yet there also is at any other time anyway so it makes little difference, whereas Unley does not have the same issues.

Off the topic somewhat, yet all the Parade needs now is the Tramlines put back in and that might well sort out a lot of their local car parking issues residentially!

Having a look again, I think it needs to be a bit wider - it's much like Adelaide Oval, but narrower. Also, you'd need to have a gap between the boundary line and track anyway.

Let the horses on it first. We're used to playing on animal dung of one sort, why not another ;)

Yeah, minimum legal playing surface width is 110 metres (Norwood just scrapes in). Fence to fence, Wayville is 125 metres at its narrowest, so grassing the flanks would put the playing surface comfortably within requirements (say, 115 metres).

Lengthways, the fences might need to be moved in at at least one end IMHO. The current fence to fence length of 215 metres is 30 metres longer than the maximum legal playing surface length.

But it poses another problem, as I'm pretty sure the track is on a mild elevation, like a velodrome.

That is because its also used for Speedway which can only be run on a banked surface!

It would suit me as I'm a life member of the RA&HS of SA, so presumably I have a right to access the members' stand.
We should move more footy to Wayville...
