How the hell did this happen?

Postby smac » Fri Feb 13, 2009 5:39 pm

This is a patch in my back lawn, which is as dead as a dodo. This patch is beyond the reach of our hoses and I haven't bothered watering the back lawn in almost 2 years. As can be seen it looks like an Indian curator is preparing my back yard.

Why would grass just spontaneously grow in this one patch (not even one square metre)? Got me buggered.

They are very healthy, very green tufts of real live lawn!

Maybe a different soil in those spots, but it would still need some water of course.

The front lawn of our block of townhouses is my responsibility and as a water conserving measure I refuse to water it and it has a similar thing going on too but over the entire lawn space. It must be tougher than the dead stuff around it

From what friends who have gardens are always saying/shouting/screaming doesn't pee (from any animal) burn and kill grass.

You don't have any underground pipes around there do you...might be a very small leak seeping up through the soil. Or maybe you found an untapped resource...sink a bore, bottle it and make a fortune

I reckon an alien spacecraft landed on that patch of grass while you were asleep.

That hasn't happened in ages, Pseudo.

Mystery has been solved. Was speaking to my brother on the phone, he used the sanctity of my back yard to wash his car the other day. Cheeky bastard.

Female pee does. More acidic. Male dog pee doesn't have the same affect on lawn. My lawn is still going great except for where my female dog p1sses. I don't water it except from the scheduled times but it does great still. Sir Walter Buffalo is a very drought tolerant lawn i have found.

It's a new variety from Munns Lawns called "F^ckin Near Dead" grass. Usually a very hardy grass but needs the occasional bit of moisture otherwise it's then called "Completely Dead" grass

I was once plastered after drinking lots, including a bottle of Vodka, and therefore emptied the contents of my stomach on my mate's backyard (which, being in Roxby Downs, was just red dirt). A few weeks later a Sturt Desert Pea grew in that exact spot.

Despite you not watering the grass of late, new stuff can shoot through from the moisture in the air, the dead stuff around it decomposing and sweating and also providing a nice mulch.

They may also be drawing on some form of moisture given to it anywhere between the last 2 weeks and when it grew.

Tuff stuff.
