Interesting to see on Sportscenter that the Americans still don't quite seem to fathom that it is more than possible that the US will lose a game(s) at the upcoming world championships. I think that it's a given that they will lose games and to me they just don't seem to get it when it comes to picking role players for these events. To me in the past there should have been room in these teams for players like Ben Wallace, Bo Outlaw, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry and others.
People will say that the '92 dream team didn't have role players and that's a fair point but it was a unique time in history that you had a team full of players (bar Laettner) who you could argue will all go down in the top 25 in NBA history.
Having said all this, if every possible NBA player made themselves available, I think it would be far more of a longshot for them to lose.

The antics of Dream Team II destroyed the mystique of the 'Dream Team' concept.

Thankfully, they call themselves Team USA these days.

BTW, Scottie Pippen should never have been picked in the original Dream Team!

Gotta hand it to the Aussies after a fantastic seven point victory over Brazil.
Makes you wonder how we don't beat the likes of NZ after a victory like that.

Australia = losers

Game 1 - Waxed the brazilians played pretty well in an upset.

Game 2 - Turkey slapped by the Turks after coughing up a big half time league

and tonight

Game 3 - "Back doored" by the Greeks in losing a game that we should have bloody won!

The result and if we fail to make the round of 16 surely means the chop for "Aussie" Brian?

Gotta admit I did chuckle after we blew the game against Greece...

And Boy Goorj admitted that poor coaching (didn't call a timeout at the death) probably cost us any chance of winning.

Can't believe he actually admitted it?

"They don't know what to do."

So, was LBJ talking about the Greeks or his own team-mates?

Greece 101 USA 95

Greece v Spain to play off for the gold medal.

Don't want to say I told you so (to Sportscenter that is).

Individually you couldn't dispute that the Americans are the best but how does that saying go - A champion team..........................

Greece got pumped by a Spanish side that didn't have Gasol playing either  Played their GF against the US and reading many of the quotes form their players they felt the US win was bigger and more important to them than winning the Gold - what sort of thinking is that after all it is no real suprise that the US lose occasionally these days?

If not for cold shooting in the Greece game and poor free throw conversion (the whole tournament as it turned out) the US would have won the lot. If this same squad which is slated to stay together until the 2008 Olympics works out how to shoot free throws come Bejing in 2008 they will be alot better with the ongoing adjusting to the International style (cue Zone not man on man) game. Throw in Kobe as well and more court time for Howard then they will be very hard to beat. What was it with Coach K - keeping Howard benched for most of the second half as well as Anthony for big chunks as well? Dumb use of two good players who had a big impact when they lead by 12 in the 2nd period against Greece.
