Why do we even bother to think about association games? None of the money men want to play and generally they are our best players so why not just give everybody a weekend off! Stuff those River Murray, GSL and Southern Leagues. They wiped us off after Tubby Fechner called their umpires cheats and anyone who saw the game would probably think he might have been right. If the powers that be want to play these waste of time games then lets stick with playing Barossa.

good to see the devs start off really well in the 20/20 comp.. my choice for skipper would be matt stapleton with dk as vice. find it hard to think of a more inspirational player in the comp than matty 'pipes' stapleton... lucky to have blokes like woody and burchy playing aswell which i dont think need the title of captain to be excellent leaders....

when are other clubs having their first trials and who are they playing??

Did hear it mentioned that the Hills league may consider implementing similar systems to other leagues (think Barossa are one) where players selected in inter-league squads who decide not to play 'without a valid reason' i.e. injury, could in certain circumstances be suspended from playing their next club match. Don't know the finer points or even if this is true? has anyone else heard this?

I have also heard the hills may inforce a similar penalty for those players not making themselves available for interleague - has been talked about for a few yrs now! It'd defintly get a better team on the park, but its also extremely unfair on the players. I have 2 thoughts:

1 - Return the club bye back into the program so that players have 3-4 wks break through the season rather than the current 2 (if not playing interleague or country carnival). Extra breaks may encourage players to put their hand up knowing there's other weekends to rest, holiday, family etc.

2 - Make association footy fun again. Can remember the 3 berri trips being raved about. Apart from the entertainment of the bus ride home, the format of the carnival and the quality of players that were in these teams was excellent. Cant see how being forced to play is fun!

Just caught wind of some news regaurding the captaincy at lofty. I heard that none of the coaching staff are going to pick the captains for either the A or B grade but the players will be voting 3 points to 2 points to 1 point for a player for each grades; this is how it will be decided. Very interesting system, gives the players a larger say. wat do people think??

I reckon if you have players voting it should influence the decision of the coach but his say should be final. He needs someone he is comfortable working with. Getting the vote of the players can't hurt and may well change his decision.

The berri trips were sensational! Long day but the road trip home was gold. The only downside was Owen trying to get everyone on the bus and back to Hanhdorf early so he could get his beauty sleep. Perhaps the footy wasn't quite the standard of Lovelock Shield tho.

Just another word on Friday's 20/20 comp- Trial game banter can almost become a dick meausring contest as teams 'boast' about how under strength they are compared to the competition- i'll weigh in with the following- Mt Lofty were missing from their 2008 premiership side the following players: Burch (b&f), M Stapleton (vc), Gordon (leading goal kicker), Nielson, O'Connor, Davies, O Temme, J Temme, Baldock and Cutting of course, who really doesn't count as he will not be playing in '09 (sorry if I missed anyone). That is almost half a side.

Super player but I heard his efforts on the track weren't up to scratch when he played there before. Someone from Onkas would have to verify that tho.

have heard the raiders have picked up a bloke from Rostrevor, 3 from Bordertown & a couple who didn't make Norwood's league list including a ruckman.

not sure whether they are all signed or if this is just people talking, just what i've heard around the traps.

What traps toot toot, the Raiders clubrooms? I hear Luke Mclean from Norwood is one. If it's the same guy i believe he played state level Under 18's so should be a fairly handy pick up.
