Chavski Season 2008/2009

Postby devilsadvocate » Sun Jan 04, 2009 5:07 am

I couldn't see a Chavski thread already existing (if so, do you mind merging this one for me JTC?), so thought I'd post this interesting tidbit:

http://www.sportsya.com/english/news.php/Roman_Abramovich_is_said_to_sell_Chelsea_due_to_financial_crisis.html?id_estruc=283&id=196873

Apparently Roman is considering selling Chavski as it's burning holes in his pockets, wallets etc etc.

I actually think most of the article is BS, but I also think the crazy Russian will lose interest and sell up sooner or later. Plus look at the quality Chavski are buying nowdays. They tried to buy a side, won a couple of league titles, but have basically underachieved. If Roman wants to continue to challenge, he's going to have to continue to fork out big time. Plus look at Terry, Lampard and Ballack all on over 100k a week - it's a joke.

in crippling debt and struggling to make the top 10 in the premier league, when they did they only just made UEFA cup spots. then the russian paid their debts out and bought players and championships

Let's not get carried away fella's.

It's true that Roman has lost in excess £10 billion on stock market falls, but remember, this is only a paper loss. When the markets come back his value will soar again and £10bn only represents about 10% of his total wealth.

As for bailing out, who to??? Chavski are not debt free. They owe Roman £000's of millions in interest free loans so if Roman was to sell Chavski he would either have to right off those loans, or the new owners would have to take them on.

In todays market, I can't see anyone stepping up for Chelsea.

I think part of the problem is, how interested is Roman these days. When he took over he was there, hoem and away, but talk is that he isn't seen around the place from 1 week to the next.

His new wife isn't interested in football and likes to live the high life dealing id fine arts etc, hence Romans recent £200m investments in paintings.

I also think that he has decided that Chelsea must start showing a profit. he has done his bit by making one of the bigest clubs in the EPL and now they have to show a return on his huge investment. His problem is that everyone is there for the money and lifestyle, and nothing else. You just can't see a Giggs at Chelsea. Sure money always talks but there is often more to it than just a huge paypacket. some players justr want to play for Man U or Liverpool. I can't see anyone just wanting to play for Chelsea.

I was hoping Stoke would hold on for the win, that would have been incredible, but it was only a matter of time I guess. Great goal by Delap to put Stoke up but Lampard hit his winner with so much power, that flew in.

Scolari has gawn. Here is the confirmation

thanks to Skysports

Scolari sacked by Chelsea

Chelsea have sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari, with Guus Hiddink and Avram Grant immediately linked to the Stamford Bridge post.

The Brazilian only took charge of the Blues in the summer and after a promising start the club have slipped to fourth in the table, seven points adrift of Manchester United.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Hull City proved to be the final straw for the World Cup winner and the Premier League outfit have now confirmed his departure.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Luiz Felipe Scolari has been dismissed as manager of Chelsea Football Club today (Monday) with immediate effect.

"The Chelsea board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager.

In order to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for we felt the only option was to make the change now.

And Avram Grant tipped for a hasty return

More from Skysports

Chelsea have sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari, with Guus Hiddink and Avram Grant immediately linked to the Stamford Bridge post.

Sky Sports News understands that the club have already compiled a two-man shortlist to replace Scolari, with Hiddink and Grant the names in the frame.

Grant stepped into the breach following Jose Mourinho's departure before being axed at the end of the season despite finishing second in the Premier League and reaching the UEFA Champions League final.

Hiddink has been linked with a host of Premier League posts after his exploits as Russia coach, including reaching the Euro 2008 semi-finals.

One possibility is that the duo could work together, with Hiddink taking charge of team affairs and Grant operating as director of football.

NAMES IN FRAME

Following the departure of Luiz Felipe Scolari, Sky Bet make Guus Hiddink the 3/1 favourite to take over at Chelsea. Avram Grant is the 4/1 second favourite while José Mourinho is an outsider at 16/1.

Next permanent Chelsea Manager
Hiddink G 3/1
Grant A 4/1
Rijkaard F 9/2
Mancini 8/1
Zola 8/1
Eriksson 8/1
Mourinho 16/1
Deschamps 16/1
