I'm still deciding whether I think this was a good use of tax payer dollars.... do all the vulnerable have access to mobile phones? and what about people who use carriers other than telstra?:-? :-?

exactly why it was misplaced, ill conceived and probably useless

Fair enough to make a loud noise on TV and the Advertiser so we stay in touch with our oldies - both family and friends

Phone companies charge us 25c per SMS but that's a rort it would cost them a fraction of that to send them. It's just a charge we've all got used to because we are addicted to texting  . Plus I think Telstra would come to the party for a community service announcement.

So I think you be surprised how little it would have cost the Govt. A newspaper ad, mailout or TV announcement would all cost more. Then there are the savings in taxpayer dollars if less people use the public hospital system.

I don't mind using technology for a public announcement, my only issue is the time it was sent.
In between signatures .....

JK, I think that is the number to call for help and advice, (not the number it came from).

Isn't that the point...you all now rush out to buy granny a mobile and sign her up to the one caring, sharing company that issues alerts and will look after her so you don't have to. Sounds like a PR exercise and nothing more if none of the other mobile firms are doing it too.

Definitely showing as the number it came from on my phone mate ... The message itself doesn't include that number anywhere

It is really sad that the Government feels that it needs to help society.

Has our society regressed that far that we have no family, friends and neighbors?
Surely it is up to us to help each other!!
If my parents were still alive I would be either calling in or phoning.

Its sad when only one telecommunication company's subsribers get the message and Territorians (ex Pat South Australians) in the middle of a tropical thunderstorm get it too.  See todays edition of te eNT News online...

Yeah real important to stay indoors and keep the air-conditioners on when you are debating whether or not to build an ark...

Waste of taxpayers money.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
