Cats are doing what they always do and that's sleeping,
although I notice they have retreated from their normal sunny spots to the shade, underneath a pile of branch cuttings from our fruit tree.

I tried to let them inside but they'd rather be out.

My dog is a toy Chihuahua and she's a totally inside dog.
So she's currently in the furtherest room of the house from the air-conditioner,
otherwise she becomes a 'shake'n'dog' O:)
You get what you give....

I was home today and my fluffy ginger cat Chan didn't move from the kitchen floor, you could really tell he wasn't coping, even in an air conditioned house. My other cat Jackie was outside all day, she wasn't interested in the prospect of a cool house.

I'm dreading tommorrow when I go back to work and he has to be outside all day.

Last night I froze an icecream container of water which I put out for the cats this morning and it was completely melted by 11am.

Any other ideas on how to keeps your furry loved ones cool in this heat?

My dog goes and finds the bathroom tiles and lays there. Normally by keeping all the curtins and blinds closed the house will stay cool enough by itself, except for yesterday and today. So its just a matter of using the programing function on the A/C to keep the house moderated under say 30 degrees - ish. Thats about all ya can really do at the moment and its probably only for about 15 - 16 days straight ;)

I came home to him laying limp and breathing heavily on the bottom of his cage. I was just about to play God when little Miss Boon arrived home and burst into a panic with her bird looking near death. After a spray from the mist bottle and a few minutes under the a/c Pepe went through some kind of resurection and was back to good health 30 minutes later.Lucky I didnt.

Our dog ( Beasely ) lives outside as 3 year old Beagles can cause chaos inside. His water bucket gets about a 1/3 of a bag of ice from the servo 3 times a day ( Mrs.Boon pops home at lunch to do the mid-day top up ) and when the sun has gone down enough he gets a cool bath before being fed and then lights out. I truly wish he would settle for long enough inside to stay there but we would not be able to leave him there all day by himself anyway.

The cat is a cat and if it goes and doesn't come back I don't care. ( It gets to share Beaseley's water )

You could always just leave it on or set it to come on at a certain time (if you have a timer that is).

The aircon is programmed to come on at 3:30. Not that I am an eco warrior but having a ducted system run while nobody is home does seem to be a little bit of a waste.

But the bird was home.

My King Charles Cav stays inside on the tiled floor.

I give him a few ice cubes and a water spray now and then (to his disilke) but still wants to play ball.....I quess that means he's happy.

Just make sure there is water always topped up.

I really feel for pets in this heat :(

I have been putting large ice blocks in morning and night for both my frog and turtle tanks. Frog tank was over 40 degrees inside it when I got home from work on Wednesday, poor frog was melting and couldnt even stick to glass!! For my favourite native birds that sit on my fence next to bedroom) I place a large bowl of water for them each day!
