How come the coach is not under a huge amount of pressure at the moment??? Every other coach is under the pump with average sides and here Nielsen escapes a lot of flack. Since he's been there things have gone off the rails. I think he is giving punter to much control and having double standards between the senior players and the new kids. Thats just a rumour I hear within the group.

Agreed. We seem to be lacking the basics, i.e. Looking for twos, putting away ordinary bowling, pacing an innings.

Not only Tim Nielsen but Troy Cooley.
Wasn't he brought in because he was deemed responsible for teaching the poms reverse swing on the ashes tour we lost?
Why is it that during recent tours to India and at home everyone is questioning why our bowlers still haven't learnt how to bowl it yet the opposition seem to be able to more often.

IMO - Cooley isn't doing his job properly either.

can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear...

Gee if Simpson, Marsh and Buchannen were in charge of our current players I don't think they would be faring much better. I say judge him in 2 years time after the next World cup if this current group havent progressed then yep make the change.

IMO...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Listening to SEN this morning, the same guys who were complaining not so long ago cricket was boring because Australia win all the time are now complaining Australia are now losing.

Just a lesson to all those people who thought it was boring to see Australia dominate the cricket world (especially the media), you should be careful what you wish for because it might just come true. Instead of enjoying a remarkable group of cricketers, you found every trivial reason to bitch and complain and now you have to watch an ordinary side. Hope you enjoy it.

Scathing AH!
I agree people have changed their views pretty quickly..
Most of those people were bored with the manner and unsportsmanlike way in which the Aussies played.
Some now enjoying seeing them eat some humble-pie.

Unsportsmanlike. What a load of garbage. If they want manners they should go to the library. I prefer professional sport.

Coaches at that level do more then you think. He is a yes man to the older players and plays the hard role to the younger guys. He is to old school and allowing ponting to have to much say. The selectors are muppets aswell White is getting a dream run there is no way he is in our top 7 batsman as he doesn't bowl so he is a batsman only which is a joke. Hodge Klinger North Katich Fergy are all better. It is a joke at the moment as we have the best domestic comp in the world and picking white.

Spot on, I said a similar thing to one of my mates. Our batting is shocking. We're playing 20/20 style shots at 6/180 with 15 overs to go and handing our wickets to the opposition.

More garbage, AH.

Most champions in professional sport manage to win with manners. The current South African cricket team, for example, seem to be able to do so.

I noticed the RSA players were more inclined to hit the ball along the ground most of the time.

I guess the "Great" West Indies sides were all docile and polite on field. I'm sure they would never have sledged or pushed the boundaries

It is the coaches job to point out to guys where they are starting to drop away. A good coach comes up with good drills, is an excellent communicator and is good at spotting weaknesses and the emergence of bad habits. Neilson, to be fair really is on a hiding to nothing. The Aussies have not only had a lot of retirements in the last few years but have also copped a lot of injuries as well.

My problem with the coaching is that watching experienced cricketers like Cameron White attempt to play the Ryan Campbell flick over the head shot when he should be sticking to the basics and hitting it through the off side for ones and twos. Another worry for me is the even more experienced Michael Hussey whose running between the wickets is just deplorable at the moment. Shaun Marsh is also a worry in this area. It is in the refinement and reinforcement of the basics that Tim Neilson can do something about and from my admittedly far off 'vantage point' it appears he is coming up short in these areas. It's all about the outcricket.

Thanks for agreeing with me 76. The coach can't bat for the blokes but he can help identify and overcome weaknesses as well as coming up with a tactical batting plan. That isn't happening.

I think we can also look at how other teams lose - whining and gutsaching about a team that just handed you a flogging should make them look bad, not the team that flogged them. Australian press (and a lot of the public) seem to miss this point.
