I've gone off Symonds this season however even I think it's a stretch to think this is some elaborate ploy to get sacked so he can play IPL.

Um ... he can just quit whenever he wants! And, news flash, he can play IPL AND play for Australia.

Just because he's a bit muddled doesn't mean he wouldn't give his right arm to play for his country.

Yes, IPL is big money but it's only 12 weeks per year and most countries are working tour dates around it. Roy's got a lot to lose in terms of CA money and related endorsements if he stops playing for Australia.

Yes he can play both for Australia and in the IPL but at great cost. Last year I think he was only able to play in about four games due to the West Indies tour and only made something like $220,000 of the $1.47m he had coming to him (three year deal remember). That is $1.25m down the drain due to that West Indies tour. If I remember correctly the Pakistan tour is right in the middle of the IPL season so id he plays in that again will only get a fraction of his maximum money.

If that Pakistan tour goes ahead (and something else pops up during the IPL season next year) he's got a lot more to lose in the IPL. You can kind of understand why he treated that one-day series last year against Bangladesh with contempt given how much the West Indian tour cost him.

Yes, but don't forget what he gives up financially if he retires from Aust cricket. Including endorsements it would have to be close to $1m per year. If he retires, what's he left with? 40 weeks off to go fishing? Would he take that v touring and playing for his country. Yes, when he's 38. Not when he's 33.

I don't think he'd see it as "lost money" anyway. He probably view $200K for 2 weeks work the same way you or I would. One huge bonus. He would take whatever money he can from the IPL while pursuing his priority of playing for his country, like everyone else is. That's why in future tours will be programmed around it is my tip. IPL will be a financial bonus for international players, not a reason to retire altogether

Here's the Roy & HG interview. Sounds harmless to me, just getting into the spirit of bantering with the boys. Another dodgy media headline .... hardly a "bizarre rant"

roy was not aware of the interview happening and roy/hg rang him off the cuff

Asked about Hayden's cooking, Symonds said he took a "side glance" at Hayden's wife as "it helps the meal go down amply well".

Hayden said he took no offence to Symonds's reference to his wife.

"The next time Roy comes around he will be on wash-up duty for dinner and he'll be on anchor duty the next time we go on the boat," he quipped.

Exactly. Another beat up of the highest order. Bear in mind Roy and HG are a light-hearted (supposedly) show. They shouldn't have even kept Roy on live when he was obviously under the influence. Beat up!!

Gone fishing was bad enough, he is trying to repair his relationship with Michael Clarke and you would think now Hayden wouldn't have anything more to do with him after those public comments about his wife and even his cooking.

At the end of the day the guy is a yobbo pisshead who let it all go to his head. Now he's a shell of the cricketer he once was and would be too much of a liability in South Africa let alone the chance to act up again in England either.

i tend to agree far to much of a liability and at the moment he doesnt have the forn to warrent a tour............................and at the age of 33yrs it might be fair to say the best is now behind him................
