DVD Drive Problem

Postby Mic » Sat Jan 24, 2009 2:12 pm

My problem is I can't play Aussie DVDs anymore on my computer's DVD player - keep getting the following message:
"This DVD player has been fixed to Region 1. ONly those discs that support this region can be played."

Is there any way I can fix this?

Thanks!

Open your device manager (right-click on My Computer, select properties, it's under one of the tabs in there), find the DVD drive in the list of hardware and right-click on it, select properties. DVD region should be one of the tabs - change it back to region 4.

Thanks, tried it but it won't work as it says I have changed the DVD player's regions too many times and it can no longer be changed, even if I reinstall Windows.

Sounds like I'm stuck with a f***ing DVD drive that plays 5% of my DVDs. :x

Unless someone knows a trick to fix that, then yes, you are stuffed.

Try googling your drive name from the device manager and see if there are any unlocking codes as they do exist for some drives.

I know my dvd drive has a warning that you can chnge the region code 5 times and then it locks onto the last one you used...sounds like that's what might have happened to you...did a little search and found this...might have something useful to help you out...

Could always open them up with dvd shrink and burn a new dvd, not the best option but might be cheaper than getting a new dvd drive.

Or could get an external hard drive, open them up in shrink then save them all on there.

Thanks for that, the VLC player plays them.

Will try the other suggestions to fix the problem permanently.

Cheers!
