Eagle News #2 – 2009 Pre-Season cont.

Postby cd » Tue Jan 20, 2009 8:33 pm

At the close of nominations last Thursday for the 3 director positions only 3 nominations were received. Congratulations to Jim Owens, David Lang and Kurt Slaven continuing as board members.

Please note the Annual General Meeting of both the Eagles Club Inc. and the Woodville West Torrens Football Club Inc. will be held at The Eagles Club, Oval Avenue, Woodville South on Thursday 5th February 2009 at 7.30pm and 8.00pm respectively. All members welcome and encouraged to attend and you can renew memberships or join on the night.

I note that some folk are asking for details re spending and salary cap. The AGM is the place for such discussion among the members and their board – so do get along if you’re a member to have your say and ask your questions.

Having voting rights etc. is just one reason to be a member and at the moment we have 600 paid up members which is most pleasing as we haven’t really started the footy build up just yet – although trial games not that far away.

The extension to the Dining Room at the Eagles Bar and Bistro (722 Port Road), will be completed by the end of January 2009. This extension will allow us to seat an extra 30 patrons and also encompasses a new Smoking area.

The following is edited from our website – look forward to seeing how this lot look on Saturday!!
[i]As cycling fever hits the streets of Adelaide, so have the Eagles. Luke Powell, James Rimington, Mark Passador and fitness guru Mark Harris will set upon a gruelling 155km cycling challenge this Friday. The race starts at Burnside Village and finishes at Angaston as part of the Tour Down Under.
Last Saturday a group of the boys set out for a 95km ride.
The ride was just a taste of what’s to come. The only hiccup being Powell’s flat tyre which kept them stranded roadside for close to an hour. “You would think Powelly would know how to change a tyre!” Rimington said. Powell who is recovering well from shoulder operation has been busy clocking up kilometres on the bike throughout preseason.
There has been lots of speculation at the club about who will be the first eagle to cross the line. “I have been carrying the boys through practice, so I can’t see that changing too much” Powell said. /[i]

Training has been fast and furious with all looking very good on the track with Jay Cheep settling in very well. Rhett Biglands looks great and is raring to go. Also a couple of the lads from our zone teams have been impressive. If you can get to Thebarton oval on Wednesdays from about 5:30pm to see the squad in action.

With the re-signing of David Westbrook this week, I think you will find the Eagles recruiting is now complete.

Not fair if you live interstate and unable to get to any games, membership not worth it.

Might be time to start reading about VFL.

That is why we have country, interstate and overseas membership for just $35 - full membership benefits at discounted price (over 20% discount). If a concession holder then drops to just $20.

Plus can always check out the club website for news and views.

Me thinks you might be spot on the Mark Bird of Prey .
Unless Ron has help in the Box like he did in 06 to help him make those much needed moves during the match.
Saying that I don't think Ron had enough cattle to do great things in 08 and we just missed fifth spot(09 we have a bye the last round not good imho) .

This season will see our biggest ever list of Crows and Power listed players - 14 I can name - hope I haven't forgotten any-one.

Would this be a record Spelly for any SANFL club?

8 at the Crows in Vince, Knights, Henschell, Shirley, Jacky, Bock, Burton and Petrenko.

6 at the Power in Stewart, Salter, Banner, Broadbent, Redden and Dawson.

A very handy list with only 3 coming via the local draft - again showing the quality of our junior development programmes.

Probably Port had more around 1997-98 I would say. Can't think of any more examples.

That's a great effort, cd.

The Eagles have been blessed that so many of your draftees have been picked up by Port or Adelaide.

Of those named, I think 3 are mini-draft selections?

I think the Bloods would still have the most drafted players across the AFL?

not much point having them if they dont play for you, wont get much use out of vince, knights, shirley, bock, hentschel, stewart and salter. Broadbent and petrenko, may start the year in eagles jumpers but will probably end the year in the AFL. may get burton for a few games fingers crossed he can get qualified for the finals

That's someone most of us have forgotten Burton , he could be an asset latter in the year. In a FP or the WING.
