I don't think those statements were unsubstantiated.

He lost a five setter against one of the better seeded players in the tournament, I reckon the Chilean would've rather played any other unseeded player first round than Lleyton.

It took a brilliant effort to beat him.

Lleyton approaches his Tennis a similar way boxers approach a fight.

Cocky and confident.

It's all about mentality at that level and I reckon when Lleyton's showing some grit and fight he's at his best.

Sure, he looks like a dickhead sometimes but hey, he sure threw everything he had into the tournament, and if he got past the first round you would back him into the finals.

I am not really a fan of Lleyton's, but I agree - if he had beaten Gonzalez, I reckon he would have easily made it into the Round of 16.

Fantastic post SS !

What would you prefer Lleyton to say;
"The surgery wasn't really necessary, unless I wanted to walk again properly, if it didn't work my tennis career would've been over"

He took a chance it paid off. Brave thing to do IMO especially when it could've ended his career....

"I'm unseeded and don't rate myself at all...why do I bother rocking up. Just let the tournament get played amongst the seeds as they are the only ones capable of every winning it"

He was the most dangerous unseeded player in the tournament. The Chilean didn't want a bar of him. Can people remember Gonzalez making the final last year ? Good on him for being confident in saying it......

Struth...

Karma...

No worries mate, i can understand where all the Lleyton Hewitt fans are coming from and good on you guys for staying loyal, but i just don't like the guy and this will be my last statement on the matter " Hewitt WAS a good tennis player, but now lacks the talent to keep playing at an international level but i would like him to keep playing, so i have someone to pay out!".

HOF? WTF?

You can not like him, but he REALLY pushed Gonzales to the extent of nearly beating him.

How is that not international standard?

Troubling the best in the world still, at his age, suggests he still has a bit of go in him yet.

Rubbish

Hewitt would wipe the floor with both of them.

The Gucc is mid range at best while Tomic is very young and unproven. Dont put to much pressure on Tomic because he still has a long way to go. Talented Australian youngsters have a habit of falling off the radar. Ala Todd Reid.

I agree with the comments on Dokic,

Was terrific to see and i really hope she continues her run at the open, would be great to see her make the 4th round or higher.

Hewitt's age isn't really an issue, especially in tennis. Hewitt is 27.

Federer is 27, Roddick is 26, Davydenko is 27, Blake is 29, Nalbandian is 27, Gonzalez is 28, Safin is 28

Keep in mind Guccione knocked Hewitt out of the Sydney International last year. Yes, Hewitt's done and making up the numbers but I must admit he's still better than either Guccione or Tomic.
