I find it strange that a 38yo would get picked
The PM XI has traditionally been for up andcoming players

Good to see Christian rewarded with a go at this level. Hopefully Hughes and Ferguson make a good fist of it. I think having Alfie lead them will be good for all the young fellas in the side.

Yes primarily for up and comers but the side has always had a "senior pro" as the captain and or senior players on the fringe of test/one-day selection to have a look at them against an international team. Boof did it once (captain the side) towards the end of his time in the Australian team IIRC.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Very decent looking side that, should give the Kiwis a run for their money.

Dennis Lillee played in a few of those matches in the 90s; I think Terry Alderman did too.

I think you are thinking of the WA Chairman's XI game played pre-season in WA country somewhere against the test touring country

I may not have the title of the match right but pretty sure it was different to the PM's XI

I don't think they do it anymore

On the topic of playing an experienced guy in the PM's XI match, when it was re-invigorated by Bob Hawke IIRC Allan Border always played as captain and there was always a token representative from Canberra

EDIT: It's played at Lilac Hill and it's actually still going http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilac_Hill
