How much improvement can be expected from Birdwood?

Will the 3 lads from town (Krieg, Dempsey & McGahey) give them as much as they may hope for?

I think it will still be a struggle but they should improve on last year.

Will certainly improve and be more competitive against the strong sides, IMO will leapfrog Ironbank on the ladder. Finals still doubtful

Have Ironbank picked up any new players? One would have to say on the information provided on this site they would start favourites for the wooden spoon!

What planet are you on champ? There was a top 7 teams last yr and a bottom 3 with daylight between them. IB was not amongst bottom 3. Why would IB suddenly get Wooden Spoon with a team built around locals, not imports, who will be fronting up year after year.

Does anyone have a run-down on who Ironbank have lost? Exelby and Muffy obviously (their 2 best players IMO). Who else?

Dave Flaherty. No-one else confirmed left at this stage that I can think of.

Scott Wendelborn and Gareth Williams not better than those two last yr? Dunno how many games you saw. Muffy played only half the games (almost all in first half of season) so the loss is not what you might think. I won't slag Ex since he reads these posts, but the man himself would admit he wasn't in our top 2!

As I see it based on comments on this thread to date, and also taking into account the reliability of information thus far, it appears the competition will be split into 3 groups this season. Top 5 – Mt Lofty, Blackwood, Hahndorf, Mt Barker, Uraidla – going to be tough for teams outside of 5 to replace any based on apparent signings. ‘Mid-Range’ – Onkas, Ironbank & Birdwood – think we will see some good close games between this group, and wouldn’t be surprised if one of these teams beats a team/s in the top 5 but can’t see any Top 5 being replaced by one of these. Bottom 2 – Bridgewater & Lobethal. Both rebuilding and will push ‘Mid-Range’ teams in some games, maybe scrape a close win. Particularly Bridgie on their home ground in the middle of winter.

By about Round 5 or so i'd suggest we'll get a pretty good idea of where things are at.

If Birdwood have Rya McGahey as well, Birdwood will be alot stronger this year. I have played many years with Macca, and he is a gun. tough and hard at the ball, will be a gun at Hills level cos he goes in and gets the ball. One of the better tacklers going around as well.

I wouldn't expect huge things from Birdwood, but with Kreigy and Macca at Birdwood, there def is a rebuilding phase coming along. Give them a couple of seasons and the young players will step up with these lads around!!

Birdwood can forget about Fuller. He'll establish himself in Norwoods A grade by seasons end. Jenkins and Georgiou are both very likely to play most of the season with Norwood and if they do happen to miss the odd game through form slump, they will play at Loby. All of these boys play footy for enjoyment and won't be chasing the $'s so early in their careers.

Humour Me, how are Lobethal looking this season? Are Aufderheide & King definite starters? Would think if Aufderheide were playing he'd bring a couple of mates out with him. Any other recruits of note?

Humour Me, I did hear that Fuller is going to TTG with a few other Gum players - but i may have that wrong.

I also think you'll find that Jenkin & Georgiou weren't going to go to Birdwood to "chase the dollars", it was more the opportunity for Tim to play under his dad as coach - a good chance that not too many players get to do in their footy career. I know I would jump at the chance to play under my dad as coach.
But I agree, i also think they'll be staying down at Norwood. Both still have a lot of potential at that level. Saying that, we would welcome them with open arms if they wanted to come over to play with Kreig and McGahey at the Roosters!!

Aufderheide has definitely signed, and i know they're are trying their heart out to attract a few more players. They'll have a very strong spine this year but desperately need some quality midfielders. Not sure what Damien King's situation is but would be a very handy inclusion. Aufderheide is trying to get a few mates on board but to no avail so far i believe. A couple midfielders and they would be huge improvers on last years winless season.

Whilst there is no doubt Aufderhide is a tallented footballer, Lobey will need a lot more than him before they start winning some games. Although i do hear that there has been a fair injection of cash into Lobethal this year.
