panthers to turn it around in season 2009!

Postby panthers 2008 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 3:47 pm

Now I gather quite alot of you will think I am full of _rap but I believe south will be a big improver this season.
Last season saw Clay Sampson blood many young players into the league side, and although not all the performances were top notch, there were some good signs(especially the wins over Glenelg and North).
Players such as James Boyd,Peter Rolfe,James Turner,Tom Carroll,Tarak Redigolo and a host of others will be much better this year with a season of league footy already under their belt.
Together with the experienced hands like Torney,Handby,Warren,Parry,Thewlis and the addition of two key big men in Bradly and Cockshell I believe teams who underestimate us will do so to their own detriment!
Bring on season 2009,and bad vision for all those who think we will be the easy beats of the competition!!!

baby steps for Panthers, 2010 might be finals action if alll goes well.
Should go well with Sampson but give it a bit of time. Depth needed for league football not there right now.

I agree with you both. We will improve, the club appears to be a lot happier environment since Clay took over with old players wanting to return to the club and all existing players wanting to stay. But Ronnie is also right the depth will still be a bit thin if injury becomes an issue. However with stable board, management, and player/coach all settled the future does look OK as it has been the instability over recent years that has caused us grief which is now a passed issue.

Clay is definately doing a great job and most things seem to be going well.
The Chairman is a comedian, that's OK, but the President is often seen as the joke. A bit of a concern if SAFC want to be taken seriously.

Love your optimism and hope you do enjoy greater success this year. Sadly, I don't see it happening...

I think you make some very valid points panthers, but consistancy has been and will continue to be South's problem for another season or 2 in my opinion. I saw them a couple of times both live on on replay and was suprised how well they could play one week beating Glenelg but then lose comfortably another week to Westies.

I think depth is the key to success and it's good to see that aspect is heading in the right direction under Clay. Certainly a good mix of talented youngsters (although I thought Peter Rolfe was linked to the new NTFL side playing in Qld ?) and experienced leaders. Personally, I like South Adelaide and hope that they do show steadied improvement leading to another finals appearence in the coming seasons.

South haven't been any good since they invented electricity....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Just wanted to see if any 1 on here knows how a young lad by the name of "Copey" is going with pre season training. He's sort of a relative and I'd be very interested to know if he's keeping up well, or even looking like a contender to snatch a few games in his first year out.
Also has any1 found troubles with the age groups changing I know it affected him from playing 19's to jump into Snrs 1st time round. I heard that clubs can play/list some kids over 18 but wasn't sure how exactly it worked. Any info would be great thanks

When I saw the title of this thread I thought they might be moving the grandstand so it faces the sea instead of the oval.

I think clubs can play 6 or 8 'overage' kids in any one game. They don't have to be the same 6 or 8, but they may have to be on the original squad list submitted. I'm not totally sure, but I think that's about what will happen.

Wouldn't "The Bronx" be "The Bronx" of the actual world?

Hope they do but until they get an oval that you can play good SKILLED football they will never improve.
How can you improve your skills on a wind swept tundra like that ?
No wonder players wont stay ....just imagine training there !
