D. Hussey should be the man. Could be someone out of left field though. Who knows.

Does that mean we're giving up on the obsession of having an allrounder?

IF Hayden does play and Symonds misses out, can you replace Roy with P. Hughes (young, in-form) to bat at 6?? - like Blewett in 94-95.
Or does it need to be a middle-order bat (eg. Hussey)

THE Australian cricket selectors have called up NSW paceman Doug Bollinger and Victorian all-rounder Andrew McDonald.

They have been brought into a squad of 13 for the final match of the three-Test series with South Africa which starts at the SCG on Saturday.

It is the same sort of thing he got dropped for a couple of years ago, and to see it hasn't been eradicated is a cause for concern when he really should be maturing.
FWIW I think the batting order would be better with him at 4 and Hussey at 5.
I tend to agree with that - perhaps coming in earlier may encourage greater self discipline - after a few boo-boos... :)

Given they brought Hilfenhaus and not Bollinger into the squad for the last test you'd expect the former to be ahead in the pecking order for this one. No doubt Symonds will be given time to prove his fitness and will play again despite still being on one leg.

Extremely surprised to see McDonald in the squad actually but I haven't really followed his progress this season.

south africa

1 smith

3 amla
4 kallis
5 devilliers
6 duminy
7 boucher
8
9 harris
10 steyn
11 ntini

Looking at the shoe ins for Australia one can only say that the batting is still very good, a very good keeper batsman, but an attack that is lacking penetration with the older ball.

Stuart Clark is missed

South Africa are a better team because they select 5 frontline bowlers, Australia need Clark and Watson in the team[or symonds fit enough to bowl] to have more depth.

Australia also needs a tall bowler who gets bounce and can bowl long spells with the old ball and if he was younger that could have been Dorey

Australia before the second test in melbourne in the last 7 tests against the second and third ranked teams [ south africa and india ] have not won a test match, thats the last 6 tests v India and 1 against south africa.

Puzzle complete for my south african shoe ins for sydney
Number 2 + 8 in the south african list were Mckenzie and Morkel who both played well in the second innings, now they have 11 very good players for the third test

Why would you have Hussey in your side, he has made less runs than Hayden!

I think it was two seasons ago now (but correct me if I'm wrong) that he really burst onto the scene and was a quality all rounder but I haven't noticed him a lot since then.. not that I have been studying his progress or anything. A Test call up is a big shock but we really do need that all rounder don't we.
