Well lets face it - given what's transpired so far we're probably not going to be able to last too long in our second dig. Not too long as in maybe a day, slightly over which will set them a (fairly big) target of around 400. Given the state of our bowling attack though (mainly the lack of available rotations) they will easily chase down a big target again. Edit: Should say that's assuming we dismiss them pretty soon.

What a turnaround we may be seeing!

That was a terrible effort by Ponting, he should have caught that.

It is a waste of time having Hauritz bowling as well, he is doing nothing. Just bowling flat deliveries and trying to get through his overs.

I'll admit the replays have made me laugh, it looked like an organised comedy routine.

Mitch is bowling really well here, admire his heart. Also this just in - possible stress fracture to the foot of Brett Lee.

Is it mean, and low to not be disappointed by that news?

The Hilf comes in, thank goodness. And Symonds can go too, Watto would've been perfect right now.

Prediction: If Hilf plays we'll win the third test. But this one is screwed barring a stunningly resilient second innings from us.

Maybe if I start talking about 9th wicket records it might jinx them. ;)

South Africa own the Test 9th wicket partnership record, 195 made by Boucher and Pat Symcox in 1997/98.

100 partnership now up

WTF is Ponting doing Steyn is blasting the ball straight yet we have no long on or long off, once the ball is past the fielder it's 4, has hit now at least 8 boundaries straight

I'm so pleased the future of Australian Cricket is assured with such exceptionally talented cricketers sitting in the burbs waiting come in and show the current members how it's done. Just imagine, there are better judges of a catch around the place than Mike Hussey or Ricky Ponting. Hilditch and co have a lot to answer for in only picking our 2nd string side.

I think Ponting should give Hayden a bowl, purely for complacency sake on the part of the batsmen. Add those fielders down the ground and tempt them to go the slog off him.

The highest 9th wicket partnership against Australia is 151 by English pair Walter Scott and William Scotton in 1884.

If you said to me last night that South Africa would have a lead after being 7/196 I'd have said you were doing some heavy duties.

WTF is going on out there...

Couple of batsman have applied themselves against an attack which today lacks fire and variety, added a bit of luck, it all adds up
