Octapussy was on last night - I didn't realise that I had never seen it - Fantastic

Roger Moore, Sean Connery then Pierce Brosnan - mind you, Connery is Scottish and Brosnan Irish, so 007 was probably a double agent in their tenure ;)

Can someone explain why Roger Moore is their favourite?

I find his Bond movies flimsy bordering on camp/slap-stick and very, very dated

Sean Connery for mine, followed by Daniel Craig

Reckon it's hard to compare the more modern Bond role against the early ones, given a slight unmercilous change in his nature and greater action scenes.

I always thought it was Sean Connery (and still do), but was really impressed with Daniel Craig's harder edged character in Cas. Royale.

I think that's what got me anti-Roger Moore. I'd seen Quantam of Solace in the morning and then watched parts of "For Your Eyes Only" that same evening. Watching a 50 year old "beat up" 4 bad guys with some dodgy round-arms didn't compare so well to Daniel Craig's efforts earlier in the day.

At least the Sean Connery Bond still looked like he actually COULD beat up the bad guys up in real life :D

The dark horse here is George Lazenby. "On her Majesty's Secret Service" holds up pretty well almost 40 years on.

You are starting to convince me in the Daniel Craig v Roger Moore argument

It was really bad when James Bond suddenly went all PC - they nearly lost all of the fans

The last Bond movie I saw had Timothy Dalton- the defining moment I lost interest in the Bond series.
Roger Moore was a stand-out, as he was really smooth, & had a cheeky edge to him.

Roger Moore's movies had just the right combination of action, humour & good looking females. Also 2 of his movies featured Jaws, who was the best villian by a mile.

Sean Connery IS Bond although I liked Roger Moore's take on the character. Lazenby was a little too laid back for mine and the modern 'PC' type Bonds lost the plot a bit although I haven't seen too much of Craig in the Role.

Sean Connery played it in the manner in which I believe that Ian Fleming wrote the character. The man who was never at a loss for the right gesture, action and always had all the answers at a given moment, the man that everybody wanted to be which of course fit in with the 1960's very nicely. Connery even did a good job when he lost interest in playing the role but the standouts remain 'From Russia with Love' and 'Goldfinger'.

Roger Moore played it for laughs and I always enjoy 'The Man with the Golden Gun' even though it was panned by the critics and some Bond fans alike. The false nipple, locking Goodnight in the cupboard and putting 'Tattoo' in a suitcase were comic gems and the schoolgirls kicking the arse of an entire Karate school is a Bond moment not to be missed. Moore's standing as a Bond was enhanced immeasurably by the presence of the most memorable Bond villian, the indestructable Jaws who was a foe in 'The Spy who loved me' and then became a friend in 'Moonraker'.

Dalton and Brosnan had their moments asf Bond but the Franchaise was getting creaky and starting to pander to elements that were clearly 'unBondlike'. Also during this time the gadgets started to overtake other parts of the Bond package.

Lazenby suffers somewhat in my view because 'On her majesty's secret service' seems to take forever to generate any momentum. Sure there are a few fights early on in the film but they become a bit repetitive and he even tells Tracey at one stage to 'put her clothes back on'. It's just not cricket old boy. Lazenby makes up for the lost batting average in the alpine lair of 'Blouchet' and the movie has a good ending but Bond with frilly shirts just doesn't work.

Desmond Llewllyn got on really well with Pierce Brosnan but that doesn't make Brosnan a better Bond than Connery.

Of course the Roger Moore Bonds are dated. The 1960's Bond was applied almost literally by Connery as he saw Fleming's creation. By the time the 1970's rolled out the new man Roger Moore had very little to gain by outConnerying Shaun Connery. The Franchaise moved with the times and moved away somewhat from Fleming's original interpretation of the character, thereby freezing it in a 1970's time capsule. I find Moore's 1980's efforts far worse than the 70's ones he did as it was becoming a tired joke by then for Roger Moore. It also helps that Connery is the more versatile actor.

For mine the newer Bonds are Bonds in name only. They could be Mission Impossble or the Matrix or the Bourne Identity. The weaknesses of later episodes is that the classic Fleming tales have been exhausted. They might be better off doing remakes of some of the 'campier' Roger Moore efforts of the 70's and 80's. Other films like 'You only live twice' and 'Moonraker' could also be enhanced by some decent special effects.

Connery is best bond, he had the right balance of class, humor and toughness however all bonds have there own things that make them different. Moore and Lazenby had the humor, Dalton played bond more on the serious side and didn't have as much humor and Brosnan and Craig are probley the next two bonds that have played the character as balanced as Connery. IMO all the bonds are good I can watch all of them, just some more then others and I think Dalton bonds movies are under-rated but I think in order Connery, Brosnan, Craig, Moore, Dalton, Lazenby
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas
