So very hard to build a good reputation, so very easy to lose one.
This seems to be where Bostons are at.
If new players are signed along the lines of the Past Players Allstars ie WCP, Bryant etc, make this FULLY known to the community. Be transparent, which I think is what BR is doing.
Have an 'experience the new Boston FC' day, subsidised drinks, start it mid afternoon pre-season for families, then have entertainment later for the hangers on.
Don't let the w#nkers in, and show that there is some stability, a good atmosphere.

great idea JQ...Rossco and btb wiil perform at Ravendale tonight....The main act will be supported by John Letts, Phil Smyth and Greg Blewitt.... and TRR and btb will be at Karoake later if you want to catch up with them. Ravendale have ordered in 12 extra bottles of Bicardi for the occasion.

Gruuuub! I was serious.
But hey, if finances are tight...
What about a no.1 ticket holder/patron of the club?

I got asked to do the SANFL previews on the old Footysa this week, do I have what it takes to oust the GM as footy writer. I'd still love to commentate local matches as well, bring on the 5cc Friday night game of the week!!

you can do it wcp.....
look at the points for and against and ramble on about that... who has the best attack/defence ect...... then say if they beat them and then they beat them they can make the 5 but if they beat them and they lose to them then they will miss the finals ...... but they could still mathematically make it but they have to play them and then them. They can still get the double chance if they beat them but if they beat them and then get beaten by them in the last round they will miss the double chance. If the top team lose to them and then lose to them they it could come down to who has the better percentage in the battle for second spot.

Such a day could also be incorporated with a training session, or better still, a trial game, to show off the new direction of the club. No advertising better than word of mouth. Perhaps Grub could do a spread in the paper too!!

That's it. Because there's normally so much CRAP bandied around pre-season about players at all clubs, that to actually see the ones you've recruited is great.

Yes ..... and you said it. Tumby seems to have had their fair share at the tribunal lately for similar "jokes" in previous weeks. Good thing we've got a good sense of humour !!!!

you dont think the hit was a bit late MB and grub??player with his head over the ball, head high contact after the ball released which resulted in vomiting and an overnight stay in tumby hospital?? in the afl that would've been 1 or 2 games for a first offender!

the hit was fine IMHO, it just got him in a good spot. The game these days has gone rediculously soft.... the old felllas laugh at us playing these days. I didnt see him get reported at the time of the incident.... so what changed the umps mind ... all the whinging EU supporters.

he was reported during the game not long after grub, the EU "winging" heirachy actually talked to the umps after the game to try and get the charges dropped.....but umps said once reported it has to stick. So we tried to do the right thing!

Granted Tips - just think it's unusual to pick "individual" moments during games. In all honesty, I thought the biggest contributor to the incident was the height difference. There was definately no elbow raised, it was his hip that did the damage ..... I didn't think there was alot of malice in it?? I just think the whole tribunal thing is a little unbalanced .... there's no way of a player defending himself. We had Jacob Cave cop a week a fortnight ago, even after the umpire admitted to not even seeing the incident, so they adjusted the charge from striking to rough play at the tribunal and he still gets a week for a first offence?? I guess all country comps have the same issues .....

agreed....i cant remember more than 2 or 3 tribunal instances in the last 4 years in the GFFL...they've obviously been watching alot of AFL.....grub i dont think you can comment on this with your back ground, you would take knuckle dusters out and smash someone and you'd still be angry if you got reported

Nup, you need to murder someone down here to get a game. J'OB belted Sam Reid three times in the chops right in front of the umpire. He has a prior record second only to Jim Schrapel and he got a reprimand!!

The irony is, I'm yet to see anyone better than Grub at going to ground clutching his head for an extended period, especially in front of goal, when someone collides with him!! He then normally gets up and bull rushes the next contest, followed by another extended period of hands on hips...... rooted!! :D

Chris Bishop W.F.C 100 Senior Games

Postby Cove07 » Thu Aug 03, 2006 6:04 pm

Congratulations to Chris Bishop who Plays his 100th Senior Game for Waybacks this weekend. An outstanding achievement.

He is very passionate about the Wayback Football Club and I hope a few players can follow his example this weekend. He is very highly respected at the club and I hope both senior grades can have a win for him on Saturday.

Tiger, I must say i don't envy the position the BFC is in, and it sounds to me from your couple of posts so far that you know exactly where the club is, where it needs to be, and that it won't be an easy task to get out of it. Seems to me that you are stuck, where more players/member's would bring in more cash, it's very difficult to recruit with facilities that are below other clubs standards. And then there's trying to attact sponsorship with a tarnished reputation. But i'm sure you'll find a way. Not sure if you do this already but perhaps meat spins and/or a members draw on a Friday night may help bring in some cash, even if you only cover costs for the draws, the extra bar takings would be handy, But also if the "clean out" works then you are faced with what would basically be a new squad, and this would give them the opportunity, especially early in the season to get to know each other and possibly build a bit of positive team/club spirit.
I wish you and the BFC all the best of luck, and who knows, might even see you for pre-season training.
