Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Postby ravendale rulz » Tue Aug 01, 2006 9:13 pm

dalton being one of the elite players in the comp I can understand your frustration. Playing in a good standard comp is important to you and we must respect that but its not only the A grade we have to look at. Juniors and Netball will have to be a massive consideration/ factor before any agreement is made. I suggest you have a year in the Great Flinders League next year and you will plainly see that the standard here is better.
and brad NEVER compare us to Far West EVER.

Anyone hear anything about night cricket here this upcoming season? If the PLCA dont organize it the GM will start his own 20/20 comp.

Dalton, there are plenty of teams in different comps that would snap you up. Stop wasting your time over there, its obvious your not enjoying your footy!! Rumuor has it you all but signed with a Hills club last year.....

With Bluey working his arse off to get night 20/20 cricket underway this year, why wouldn't the PLFL be doing the same? I would have thought that with dwindling crowd numbers etc the prospect of renewed interest through night footy would be a given for 2007. What are the problems or reasons for this not happening next year Bluesy? As I said, I assumed it would be a certainty, why would they sit on their hands?

And Sturt. He went, he saw, he conquered. Left to live in Adelaide on a Friday last March and was back at work in Lincoln by the next Tuesday. Does 3 days constitute an 'era' or a 'SANFL career'?

From a crowd perspective, night footy would be great. Not so sure if the clubs will embrace it so much. Night footy would not be conjusive to good turnover at the club. Say we play on a Friday night, could imagine a reasonable crowd maybe before the game and an OK crowd (depending on when the game finished) after the game. Saturday would be dead...this is proven with Sunday matches....

suppose factor in the cold wintry weather here in June July (eg last Saturday) and interest might drop off. Maybe if the PLFL had a stake in the RCC then it may be more viable. Clubs could get a slice of the Fridaynight trade to offset missing out on trade back at home base.
Maybe small steps at a time, with each club taking part in a pre season game in March. Would be great crowds at that time of year, and wouldn't really impact on traditional club time...The excercise in Whyalla has not been a great boon for clubs, but given the shift work situation there is necessary...but they only play a few games early and a couple late because of the weather.

If there are no games in the middle of winter, then let's say there are only 8 games for the year programmed for a Friday night. Between the 6 clubs the most you'd get for the year would probably be only 2, Tasmans could have more? Can't see this impacting hugely, you did say the turnout at Waybacks was pretty dismal this week anyway, and if the League continues to bore us the patronage at all clubs will also continue to dwindle. For me, this is the spark we need and it should be made to happen. Probably the only exciting thing keeping me going!!

Why just limit the night footy to a friday? Why not saturday night? The league would have to be mindful of the AFL program though...
I think there should be a night match or two in the Mortlock Shield. How about kick off the carnival with a friday night match? Any thoughts?

I read with interest everyones comments regarding the boston football club. We have asked the league that we be given a grace period until 2010 to sort the situation out which they have agreed, we know the road ahead is going to be hard but lets take it a step at a time. The talk of us folding or merging wont happen until at least then. The constructive talk and ideas to help the competition and us have been well recieved by the club but the negative vibe from a few on here has also not gone unnoticed.
The club would be definatly interested in talking to anyone who wanted to help rectify the situation in anyway and if the so called consortium was serious we would be happy to work something out.
I look forward to more open discussion with you all in the future, but I am of the opinion that we need the 6 team competition.

Having played Friday & Saturday night footy in Cairns, Friday's were great and Saturday's sucked!! If you play Friday you get the rest of the weekend to do as you please. With footy the next night you can't go out etc Friday night, you sit around all day Saturday waiting to play and by the time you finish playing, shower up and have a couple of drinks it's midnight and the weekends as good as gone. Saturday's won't get the crowds either, players will be at their own clubs for awards whereas Friday I think nearly everyone who had nothing on would go down.

surely night footy has to be on the adjenda (wheres my dictionary) in the near future. ...The biggest crowd at Ravendale this year was when Bostons played Yeelana.... Early in the season is the go, give everyone a Friday night game in the first round next season and then have a meeting on how every club feels about it... If it did go ahead would the Bgrade start at 6pm with the main game at 7.30 or would you just play As?? The Bgrade would have to play to get some atmoshpere there I would have thought. Agree Friday night is a lot better than Sat nights.
Maybe some protection from the elements at Ravendale in the future will help the night footy cause as well.

grub I am going to have to agree with you. Up until this year, all taems had to endure a Sunday match in the first few rounds. Just change Sunday for Friday nite and the problems solved. While weathers OK it should be a spectacle that will draw people back to the game. I am sure that the PLFL would have this on their agenda (use mine... ). Would think that a round of trial games under lights followed by 3 home and away games would be a perfect way to entice patrons back to the game.

Speaking of PLFL agendas, will suggest that admission price increases are firmly on the PLFL's. They have burnt plenty of coin this year making sure that Ravendale gets going, and cannot keep doing this. Given that netball and hockey were adamant that $3 was tops, we may play all footy at Ravendale next year under lights and on Sunday to avoid a sh*t fight with the other tenants.
