SA records tonight

Postby spell_check » Tue Dec 16, 2008 9:39 pm

Well, it's a very rare occasion to do a records thread in favour of SA, but here goes:

2nd wicket partnership of 128 by Tom Cooper and Younis Khan beats the previous highest against NSW, which was set in 1982/83 by Ian McLean and Peter Sleep. That was 105.
The 173 run winning margin is the biggest victory by SA. Previously it was 141 runs against Victoria at Adelaide Oval in 1997/98.
The previous biggest winning margin by runs against NSW was 114 runs at Coffs Harbour in 2001/02.
112 runs by NSW is the lowest against South Australia. This lowered the 119 runs scored by Queensland in 1993/94 at the Adelaide Oval.
And the NSW lowest before tonight was 144 runs in 2001/02 at Coffs Harbour.

People seem to forget that Peter Sleep was a very good batsman.

I rated him as a batsman at Shield level. Saved the Aussie side on at least one occasion with his batting too.

Just looked at his record

FIRST CLASS AVE of 34.89 (15 hundreds, 40 fifties)

Im going to claim my young age as a reason for doubt of his batting prowess, but S**t he has stats of a quality BATTING allrounder

FC Batting ave 34.89
FC bowling ave 39.39 (s/rate 77) his bowling record actually lets him down a bit

Redbacks are improving because they have finally taken a stand against players who don't do the work. The message is simple, either get yourself fit, get yourself in form, or stop wasting our time.

About 10 years too late, but better late than never.

I was against the inclusiion of Younis Khan, I couldn't see the point as I considered he was just depriving a younger player of a spot, but he is setting a standard for them to follow, and it's great to see.

I'm in agreeance on Khan. I was sceptical as well, but it would appear by his mannerisms he is not here for the bucks. You can tell he loves playing cricket, and you can tell he is desperate for team success, not individual success. The Redbacks may have finally plucked out a good marquee recruit.

It's just a shame he won't be around for much longer. He really has set an example on how to go about things and it appears to be rubbing off on the playing group. Good to see.
