Very good question, Bazza. Being that we live in an increasingly litigeous world, I'd err on the side of caution and if it were me as captain, I'd choose not to play, especially if its the 1st week of the game, there's always next week.
The other way I'd look at it is for the sake of the equality of the game. The toss of the coin could essentially decide the result depending on the conditions. Why not just play a 1-day game the following week in equal conditions and hopefully much better ones at that?
That's my take. For the record, I've never been a captain.
