Love them or hate them we need umpires if we want to have a kick each saturday. Was good getting some recently retired blokes like Raymond and Smith on board season just gone, assume they will continue? Thought they did a good job. Read somewhere that due to the new underage SANFL changes and resulting excess number of umpires, some umps may be looking to go country as there were some disputes over training requirements if they want to umpire SAAFL higher divs. Be good if we could attract some of these younger, suitably experienced umpires to the Hills to take the pressure off some of the older blokes.

If people want to start talking money, this is where I think the league should be looking to spend more $. Just my thoughts.

Not at all slippery. Umpires are getting paid plenty already, and the more you pay them the more some of them stick around for the wrong reasons! Got enough bad umpires already without people with no idea just doing it for the cash!

Agreed fnSq, certainly dont want guys hanging around simply for $. No idea what an umpire gets each game? Was more along the lines of setting aside additional $ to attract some of these SANFL experienced umpires if they were not going to continue down in town. If you could pick up some of these more ‘experienced’ umpires then maybe you would not have to put up with ‘bad’ umpires as often. Don’t mean more $ per game, spending would be aimed at increasing the pool of umpires.

I wish all the best for Bridgewater next season and my heart will always be at Bridgy and at some stage I will finish my career back there. The club has made some massive changes since you have off and they are all very positive. Luke Gain will bring in some new ideas and will get the best out of the young kids comming through.

Pity you didnt show that heart when you pulled on the guernsey this year for the raiders Captain Koala. Never seen anyone go off on a stretcher with cramp, one of the funniest things I have ever seen on a footy field

The Hahndorf Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of former Norwood league player Matthew Bartemucci for season 2009 and beyond. As has been previously mentioned in this forum, Barta joins Daniel Roberts (WWTFC), Brad Dubois and Josh Russell (both Onkas) in signing on to play for the Magpies next season. Further announcements to come as details confirmed.

[quote="Slippery Pete"]No idea what an umpire gets each game?

Can I give you guys an exact amount that the umpires are getting?...I can tell you that the home club forks out around $480 each home game, thats going on a 2a, 1b, 2sc & 1jc HFL supplied day of umpires. A club umpire is usually fixed up with nothing (volunteer) or some other payment(s)?

Agree those umpires are well compensated but having said that I wouldn't do it for $1000 a game! Would be good to attract a few more young blokes to umpiring but then on the other side of that a couple of the old umpires are probably still as good as we have.

Why would they waste time doing that AF?? Just recruit willy-nilly regardless of account balance or points total - surely there's no need for any level of professionalism??!!?

Wouldn't matter how many points they accumulate, it'll still get past Owen and his blind mice. ;)

Daniel Roberts at Hahndorf, he can't hold a mark in the dry weather, how's he gonna hold them in the wet up there?

Good point also. that actually makes it 11 or 12 looking at it that way.

Would say that means they're recruiting is already done.
