I'm not the 1st to post a $ value. Of course, Flinny isn't going to tell me directly what he's getting but if one of his parents were to mention it, is that close enough to the horses mouth for you?
Just for interest sake toot, Flinny told me directly after the GF that he wasn't planning to return for at least another 2 years. I'm all for him coming back but probably not the circumstances I expected.
Good to hear that Bridgy are turning the corner, so to speak with all the stuff being put on here. Know a few of the locals quite well and they are much more positive already. Should be interesting come round 1. Still want to beat them by plenty though![/quote]

Your not the first to post $'s correct but doesn't make it right.

Well that is as good as the horses mouth, i'll give you that. I bet his olds would be rapt to hear you spruiking it over the net.

Do you play, and for who?? If so how much coin do you get a week?? If it's good enough to mention others then lets hear your pay packet big fella?

I think Onkas are well and truly had it if all these players are leaving. Will be in the world of trouble other than Klun any other signings. Any more news on he Meadows lads that were at Hahndorf the other week?

Well they have certainly lost a few. Will still have some talent though. If Smart did happen to leave for a BLG club due to work and Contin not play then alarm bells may ring

Don't be so precious. If you're gonna be paid and let slip to anyone how much you're on word will spread. Too bad. I will never be convinced anyone deserves $$$ to play this level of football.

It's all about chasing the $$$ now and not playing for the love. Each year you line up against a team and you don't know who half of them are. You can't really call it local footy anymore.

Anyone heard anything about umpires for next season? that being are we likely to see any new younger blokes step up? Love them or hate them we need umpires if we want to have a kick each saturday. Was good getting some recently retired blokes like Raymond and Smith on board season just gone, assume they will continue? Thought they did a good job. Read somewhere that due to the new underage SANFL changes and resulting excess number of umpires, some umps may be looking to go country as there were some disputes over training requirements if they want to umpire SAAFL higher divs. Be good if we could attract some of these younger, suitably experienced umpires to the Hills to take the pressure off some of the older blokes.

If people want to start talking money, this is where I think the league should be looking to spend more $. Just my thoughts.

Brad Smith has signed to play with Marion in the SFL so he wont be donning the bright orange again this year... having chatted with the great man during the year I was under the impression that they were fairly well looked after in the finance department.

And CountryVic, I actually thought the Jailbird's comments gave a good insight into the difficulties Bridgey are having attracting players to the club... fancy paying that sort of cash (whatever the amount is) to a junior that came up through the ranks at your club... wouldn't happen at many other clubs I wouldn't think... The players that Lofty pay good coin to would walk all over the player in question for Bridgy... keep throwing the figures out there boys, makes for some humourous reading! ;) Jailbird plays for Mt Barker, and gets paid per kick, therefore very cheap deal haha

If you can get the cash take it.

2 things though.

1. Do people think that the current financial situation will effect clubs getting sponsorship dollars and therefore in a year or two the dollars for players flying around will be less and players will stop being able to demand such large figures ?

2. I can't believe players can get what is the equivalent of a weeks work or more for most people for a game on saturday arvo and 2 training runs per week ( and lets face it a lot of recruits don't even train that many times because they know or are under the impression that their selection is never under threat ).
Supply and Demand i guess. 8)

It was the Flinn topic that made me think of it not your post. Mad Harry what do you think A Feijen should do with his football next year stay at Meadows or go back to Bridgewater?

I can't see the global financial crisis having a direct impact on smaller country leagues as most sponsors are of a smaller standing and also don't tip in the same sort of cash as the AFL sponsors.

As for recruits not training i can't beleive clubs don't have a strict protocol in place on this behaviour. If a club is paying you to play then you should be training and if injured at least at training.

I think clubs should put deductions in place on contracted players that don't train.

I know some clubs, generally the stronger ones i think you'll find, have a policy if the player doesn't attend training both nights without a legitimate reason (work for example), they do not receive their payments. If a player is sick, they will still be required to attend the training, and if they're too sick to do that then chances are they will not play anyway.

Not at all slippery. Umpires are getting paid plenty already, and the more you pay them the more some of them stick around for the wrong reasons! Got enough bad umpires already without people with no idea just doing it for the cash!

I think Monty deserves some success but I am not sure he will get it at either club but I think there is more chance at Meadows
