Toyota World Club Cup

The World Game

Jamo's best game in the red so far.
A smaller Brett Emerton?
I reckon we'll be lucky to hold on to him all the way through next season.

Krishna worth a look as an extra strike player for next season?

It'd be nice to see Waqar get some more pitch time for us soon too.

Big sigh of relief, but a repeat of that kind of game on Sunday is going to see us thrashed by Gamba Osaka, especially with their fanatics cheering them on.

On to the next game:

Gamba Osaka v Adelaide United (8.50pm, Sunday night).

Anyone catch the SBS 2009 sports promo? That was a Verve song playing in the background, anyone know what it was?

Also, interesting to note the ethnic broadcaster has the Ashes tour rights. Some intellectuals out there might have a field day with that.

I don't think you can really argue with what he has to say though, he is honest with his opinions and more often than not his opinions do ring true. Australian football does lack CREATIVITY!

That's just the style A-League teams play. I read somewhere in regard to goals scored per game, that the A-League is one of the highest scoring leagues around. I have no drama's with some of his opinions, as opinions are like assholes, but not once have I heard him say anything positive about the game that gave him his start.

Wow, awesome if true. Got a link for that?

I like how you single out Scholes as a superstar in that who's who side of football royalty.

Here is the link it's direct out of the Manchester United site. I just love Scholes since he started such a great striker of the ball, even with such a super team you still have your favourite players.

Exactly- that's the way they play, without creativity and flair. And the quality of goals is fairly average.
I think thats what Foster is trying to get at. When any Australian team (Socceroos included) play a strong side, we lack the creativity to break them down and resort to playing long balls and going wide all the time and putting in "kick and hope" crosses.

i agree Fossie can get annoying with his constant negativity but its not just at Australian Soccer / Football. When he does the Champions league he is not afraid to bag the big teams or names either. Its hard to argue with alot of his points but it wouldnt hurt for him to focus on the positives a little more. If they had him on sunday analysing the homeless world cup i am sure he wouldnt be afraid to point out a few home truths there either!!

I remember the last time Franny Awaritife was in the studio for an adelaide united game. was the finals series of the old NSL and he went to town on us saying how we didnt deserve to go through the finals at the expense of South Melb (i think) and that we would get smashed in our next game by Perth. He made the back page with his statements......turns out he was right Perth smacked us 5-0. Think he is still awaiting his apology from the Advertiser.

Pretty average spectacle last night, we had no imagination at all in our attack! Take it down the wings, then blindly cross it in, and the two big nude-nut kiwi defenders had minimum fuss. Would have liked to see us try and dribble the ball in more, and pass it in to the feet of Cristiano. The early move where Spagnuolo (I thought he quit?) had a shot saved was probably our best move of the game, then we revereted to the blind cross tactics again.

Sarkies is horrible, Jamo is a GUN! Also their Fijian lad Krishna was probably the most dangerous looking player on the pitch.

Did anyone else have a sneaky giggle about their poor Brazilian sub who came on late in the 2nd with a knee injury, made one sizzling run at our goals, then promptly got subbed off with a knee injury? Poor bugger!

I'd be more tempted to put the superstar symbol next to Ryan Giggs, but anyway, I'm not too disappointed with the way Adelaide played last night. A win is a win. Soccer is a funny game, and teams can sit back and make it really difficult, as we did in the Champions League. That is, I presume, what we are going to try and do to Gamba on Sunday night and I give us a fair chance. Cassio and Ognenovski will make a fair difference too. Bring it on!

It would be easier to single out the players who dont deserve superstar symbols. But yes Giggs & scholes have been great servants of the Premier League but unfortunately i think age is catching up with both of them. Provided many highlights over the years (especially Scholesy's tackling!!)

You couldnt help but laugh when that Brazilian (peterino??) came on. One jinking run that almost led to an equaliser. commentator then asks "why wasnt he starting on the pitch?" 2 seconds later the camera cuts to him writhing in pain on the ground before hobbling off.

I hope your right about the next game against Osaka Not scared but i think the japanese will be happy to sit back and let us have most of the posession. We gave away 2 goals over there last time by bad passing and i think we may have had more possession in both games. They continually attacked (exposed) Conflake last time so we cant afford to have him at RB in this game.

Yeah Giggs would be a close second to achieve what he has and is still gong strong I would actually give him legend status.

I prefer Giggs over Scholes but that's because he is Welsh!
Scholes is one of the best midfielders ever to grace the EPL, and world football too. He is slowing down now he's getting on a bit but he was the man who scored a stunning goal to put United through to the Champions League Final.
