Guys, seems everyone is in favor of promotion and relegation but it has been mooted in the past .. in fact at a Hills AGM a couple of years ago, delegates voted in favor of the proposal but left it to discretion of board, but nothing came about. Of course, Country clubs must WANT to make the shift. Thunderers are to be congratulated on having foresight to move up and really have worked hard ... guess they probably wouldn't want to drop back in standard. Birdwood and Kersbrook are classic examples of teams coming up in the past but failing to stick to it. Brookers were competitive in 1990, pushing a number of sides, including eventual premier, particularly at Kersbrook, and weren't that bad in '91, but opted to go back to where they reckon they could win more than they lost. Birdwood flag winners in '94, up to Div 1 in 1995, then high tailed it back in '96. Perhaps those clubs who are keen to come up should be extended a period to consolidate and build to being consistent performers. I agree, the whole club must be strong, juniors particularly can suffer ... ask Echunga, some lads went through under-age careers when in Division 1 without much success. It does make for healthy debate, should stronger clubs be forced to come up as has been mentioned by promotion and relegation? Don't know if it's the answer, in Amateur League, particularly A1, a lot of clubs promoted up end back in lower grade in two years, not being able to cope with rise in standard and what is required to be competitive at that level. The make up of HFL Divisions has always been a old chestnut ... Maggy in 80s ... maybe adopt the one tier competition of 1983? ... now that really showed the difference in ability of the two separate divisions ... regular 35+ goal wins by some teams, no wonder there was a spate of centurion goal kickers that year!
