I'm bloody proud of Adelaide Oval

I love hearing all the commentators complimenting the Adelaide test for the great ground, steeped in history. Players love playing here. The scoreboard is always shown and every time they will go off again about how great the place is. A good lesson that progress is not always for the good.

Adelaide Oval test goes off!!
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

I went yesterday, and have decided to go again tomorrow, even if the game is a little bit down, Adelaide Oval still has a wonderful buzz around it, fans love it and creates an awesome feeling.

Adelaide Oval= Number 1 ground ever!!

Not quite...I'd slot it in behind Lords (which I've been too).

Years ago, we were fortunate to play a rare minor round game of Grade cricket at Adelaide Oval. One of our recruits that season was a left arm pace bowler from England. His first game for us just happened to be at Adelaide Oval, and I'll never forget his reaction. He said it had always been his dream to play on Adelaide Oval having watched Test matches on TV, and it was his favourute ground.

Having watched an Adelaide Test from Perth once, it really does come up beautifully on TV, and not hard to imagine why it may be a prefered ground to the MCG for people overseas. I think it was Martin Crowe who said the other day that Adelaide Oval and Basin Reserve were the best two cricket grounds in the world.

Don't you just love that scoreboard? :)

To see the scoreboard in use for a cricket match is like seeing a time capsule come to life. It has not changed at all since it was first built, save for the West End signs at the bottom.

The scoreboard celebrates its 100th year in 2011, a very significant milestone in the history of the Adelaide Oval.

Sat with some friends from country Victoria in the top deck of the Bradman stand. One of them was his first time to the Oval, was taken away with how good the oval looked. Absolutely magnificent it was today.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Did anyone catch Gilchrist's comments on our great ground? Said something about how all the players agreed that when they're done this was the test match they could all come to and just enjoy. Wow. :D

Proof that sometimes "state of the art" is not necessarily better. Have you ever been up in the scoreboard? I've been going up there since the mid 60s when my best mate's dad used to work up there, and it was a great place to watch Grand Finals. I still wander up occasionaly with Frank running the board these days.

The clinical method when there's a change of innings is rather impressive, you have to make sure to stand well back otherwise you get collected by a steel name plate.

Police wander up from time to time to check out the crowd. You can see everything that happens on the hill in front of the board, so you guys who think you can cleverly hide smuggled alcohol, etc, think again.

It always makes me laugh when you hear commentators on the radio spot an error on the board and announce it over the air. Then when the error is corrected, they claim the board was listening to them.

The facts are, the only time they alter the board is when the official scorers telephone Frank to tell him the board is out. So radio commentators needn't flatter themselves :)

I have been to a few Tests at the Gabba now and while the Gabba is a great ground it is no Adelaide Oval. My fellow South Australians...don't EVER let them get rid of the Hill or the Scoreboard. Adelaide Oval is so much better than the Gabba it isn't funny.
