John Devaney of Full Points Footy has published two books so far - an encyclopedia of Australian Football Clubs and a WA Football Companion. Further info is available here:

http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/latest_news.htm

The good news now is that he has just completed his latest book and sent it off to the printers this week - he is expecting it to be available at the end of the month. It is the Full Point's Footy SA Companion! The Index of entries in the book is here:

http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/Index%20Of%20Entries.pdf

Sounds like a good xmas present to me, (and also LL, AH and Spelly!) but I thought others might also be interest. (Please note that I have no personal stake in this promo - I'm simply sharing the information).

John was interviewed on 5AA this week and the amazing thing is that he has lived in the UK since 1963 when I think he was 6 years old. The interview expands quite a bit on his passion for footy in a country that knew nothing of Aussie Rules and how he subscribed to the Budget, Football Times etc and collected everything he could about the game - yet lived so far away. The interview is available via podcast from the station's podcast page at

http://www.5aa.com.au/site/podcasts.aspx

The podcast in question is headed FIVEaa Sports Show with KG and Cornesy 04.11.08. The entire podcast lasts about 33 minutes, with his interview comprising the last quarter of an hour or so.

I've got both books and they are a Historians bible.
Ring Santo Caruso at Melbourne Sports Books (03 9662 1085) as he has a couple of copies of both books available.

I was thinking of getting the first book he's done on Australia-wide, but I don't know what it contains. Does it have full write ups on team history and origins and then their respective records? I'm wondering whether its a combination of the SA media guide we get now and some old books I've got which talk about Woodville of the 1890's and so on? Anyone who can give me a run down of what they contain would be great...

Should sell well on the basis of page 628 alone.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

My stated aim for posting on this site is to increase the respect for the great man Roger Woodcock. Hence, page 628.

That spot on the forward flank in the Norwood Team of the Century will eventually get changed.

Yes, it's difficult to understand what the selectors were thinking. What other club would leave a 600 goal HF flanker out of its Team of the Century?

The answer of course is how many clubs actually HAD a 600 goal HF flanker to omit?

I saw Doug Olds play, late in his career admittedly, and I saw Roger Woodcock kick most of his goals.
I'd put Woodcock in for Olds - just not sure who goes to the wing.
I didn't see Albert Sawley but he'd need to be more reliable than Brian Sawley who played in the 1950s was to hold a spot.
[Brian was brilliant on his day - they just weren't frequent enough.]
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

No way would you leave Doug Olds out of the team. His record for Norwood and South Australia is superb. Besides, as you say, Woodcock is a HF flanker, Olds is a wingman. No comparison.

I got a copy when it was released last year.

A quality publication........except that he maintains his stance that Port Adelaide Magpies are the new club

Latest update sent out today:

This brief message is being sent to inform Full Points Footy subscribers, and others who might be interested, of the publication of my new book, Full Points Footy’s SA Football Companion. The book is a copiously illustrated, 666 page hardback which affords an encyclopaedic survey the history of Australian football in South Australia, including club, coach, player, umpire and administrator profiles, reviews of important matches, copious records and statistics, information about amateur and country football, and much more. To view a selection of preview pages from the book as well as find out how to purchase copies visit my Update News page at

http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/latest_news.htm

If anything appears unclear, or you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Next in the pipeline are volume two of the Full Points Footy Encyclopedia Of Australian Football Clubs, which will deal chiefly with clubs from the state of Victoria, and a revised and expanded WA Companion (to bring it more in line, in terms of detail and depth of coverage, with its SA equivalent).

Kind regards,
