You must be kidding they only beat bridgewater and Lobethal this season just gone, and let's be honest that's nothing to gloat about. They need to start beating some of the top five teams before you could even consider them getting close. Having said that they are improving each year and good luck to them.

did you post your top 5 not expecting people to comment on your predictions? i understand it is your opinion however i dont necessarily have to agree with it.

Is it true that Birdwood have a lost a few more to Payneham Norwood Union for 2009?

Cutting not going overseas anymore? tipping a side to finish second is hardly writing them off, just from what i hear Hahndorf are set to vastly improve on their depth next year, which was their achilles heel this season , and with Lofty perhaps losing a little bit of depth I can see Hahndorf being right up there with them. Of course it is only early, and my predicion is pretty much based on rumours, as would most peoples at this time of the year.

I don't know if they have improved I think Bridgewater and Lobethal just got worse, they were both very poor this year.

Just the one that I know of. Probably 95% of the A graders from this year have signed on for 2009 and are very keen.

top 5

Mt lofty - still the team to beat. good young kids coming through. only the 1 big loss of cutting but will b replaced through their depth or another recruit.

URI- They had a bad yr but still a quality side who have picked up what they needed. will b vastly imporved. with more quality young blokes coming through should help bring more speed to match lofty.

Handorf- solid team from last yr will get better as they spend more time as a side and a few top up players

Blackwood- very strong team but loose a couple of big name players may drop them a bit. will still b hard to beat.

Onkas- They will b the sleeping giants. klun improves that side no end as they had no one who would win the hard ball before that. he will give to smart ect and they will b a good side.

the top 5 may well b wrong as i still think barker could challenge for A GF birth!!

got a mate out at Birdwood this year. He was tellin me he rekons there all being paid in anphetamines!! He has not seen a group of guys want to start training and go full bore through runnin and drills and trainin Mon, Wed and saturday mornings in years!! They seem really pumped to have a core group of older, more physical and experienced players. Playing with two blokes fresh out of league footy would be great for young kids to be involved in. Footy is a game played between the ears. You get a group chewing at the bit with confidence and enthusiasm - could see some up sets. The recruits are pumped as well from what I heard. Krieg got everyone pretty keen from all reports!

nothing and i mean nothing will improve birdwood on last seasons efforts

if clubs like hahndorf spent big only to see them get 3rd, birdwood would have to buy at least 10 players of good credential to make the 5

When ya say spent big, how much ya talkin? Also who did ya buy and are they still there. Would it be fair to say it's not all about what ya spend its who ya get, and the attitude of who ya get can make a big difference.
We've all heard stories of big bucks but the blokes are just ego strokers and do the club no good what so ever.

That's a pretty hefty claim. True I don't think we will make finals, but i think we'll push it. Apart from about 2 games we're we got totally blown out, every game we played this year we basically let the game slip in one or one and a half quarters. This is mainly because we're a fairly inexperienced side with a bit of a fitness program. Add 3 or 4 gun, fit players, and 30 other blokes who are training hard in November and i think a couple of teams will have something to think about. Not trying to get ahead of ourselves at all, and understand it's a long process to success, but to say nothing will improve Birdwood's efforts is an interesting statement

my statement means that they will not improve on where they finished this year because what ever birdwood do to better themselves for next year all the clubs above them will be doing the same. so there will be no improvement in their position next year, there might not be the blowouts as you mention and they may be competitive but on the premiership table they will be around the same this year

magpie80s: im not convinced ur right there, coming from bottom (0 wins) to 3rd was done by lofty only 4 yrs ago. admittedly we got in b4 the points system so we were able to get around 5 guns for the club, which cant be done now in one yr. but the talk of birdwoods enthusiasm on the track and a few experienced and talented players reminds me of our november trainings with KB in '05.

having said that im not sure they can quite get there next yr but definately if they keep this up 2010 could be a good yr for the roosters.

my top5:

lofty (MUST find someone to cover cutts' hardness and attack on the ball)
hahndorf (lets see if the rumours live up to anything this yr)
uris(cant bring myself to completely right them off)
blackwood (cant see them being better than last yr)
onkas (assuming klun is in, if not could slide way down)

barker (will def be a chance to hop into 5)
i.b (again, cant see them being better than last yr)
birdwood (lets hope they make a good go at it and get higher than this)
lobe (struggling! couple of locals from sanfl will help alot)
bridgy (will only higher than this if lobe and birdwood dont improve this yr)
VOTE1 Tom Maslin for the seat of MAYO!!

congratulations on stupidest comment for the week... nothing would improve them? 2 league footballers? 5 league footballers? 25 league footballers? birdwoods golden child Scott Burns coming home?

the fact is birdwood have recruited very well, and so no matter what have already at least improved their potential, my opinion we'll beat bridgies, lobey, ironbank, and give onkas, mt.barker and even blackwood a huge run...

but good job for throwing out ridiculous blanket statements. didnt hahndorf go from third or fourth bottom to third top in one season?

I think Bridgy will improve immensley next year. They have a new board that has a clear and concise direction and they have all ready signed a couple guys that were down at Norwood last year, a couple of guys playing in the hills league from other clubs and are justing waiting on confirmation about a couple of guys that the Coach Ganey knows from Mildura.

Maybe it's going to take a while but i know they have a core group of guys wiling to do the work and have been doing fundraisers and the like allready. That's unheard of at Bridgewater Fundraising in November!

Will be interested to see how it all pans out next year!
