just reading the vfl site & the name toby pinwall appears as a 'rumour' that he is going to central districts, anyone hear know about this ? smac, big phil ?

Guys, like bayman and mickyj, I read it over on the VFL forum as well, I think it happened to be the day it was posted on there...

I thought I posted something in the "recruits for 09" thread somewhere but couldn't find it, must have been on the centrals forum.

So here's what I posted over on CDFC.info

I read this morning, over on the VFL web site forum that there is a player from the Gary Ayres coached Port Melbourne that we are having talks with as a potential recruit for season 09...

Would be a handy pick up I reckon...

I like to keep a close eye on the VFL throughout the year and he seems to be a consistant goal kicking on baller with a bit of grunt...

He was their runner up best and fairest for season 08 and was judged their league sides "most determined" for the year...

If Toby Pinwill looks as if he’s surrounded by friends at Port Melbourne, he certainly is – and that’s one reason why he’s enjoying
himself so much.
Pinwill, now in his fourth season at the Borough, is engulfed by an army of mates he came through the Oakleigh Chargers program with,
albeit some of them from a couple of years before him.
In total, there are 18 ex-Chargers at Port, making up almost one-third of the club’s list.
While there is an eight-year spread from Ryan McMahon, the venerable elder statesman of the Chargers’ clan, to Dean Kelly, who graduated
from Oakleigh’s premiership side last year, there is a strong sense of camaraderie among the group.
“I really enjoy the club,” Pinwill said. “All my best mates are there and I enjoy playing at the highest level I can.”
A former Oakleigh captain and best and fairest winner, Pinwill came through the Chargers the same year as Julian Rowe, who is
in his first year at Port Melbourne after spending three seasons at Collingwood.
While Pinwill was dominant during his time with the Chargers, he’s played more games in Port’s reserves than its seniors. Pinwill would like
the ledger to show the reverse, however, he is definitely not complaining, having played the bulk of his 30 VFL games in the
past two seasons.
Last year, Pinwill played all but two matches, but because of the lack of height in the team, found himself in a key position.
“I was playing as a tall back, but I don’t have the height to be a key position player,” the 186cm Pinwill said.
While Port did not enjoy a successful season, Pinwill believes the season erased any excuses from among the playing ranks.
“You knew if you didn’t make the team it was your own fault, while the year before people would blame other things with
the alignment with the Kangaroos,” he said.
When Port Melbourne embarked on an exhaustive recruiting drive in the off-season, Pinwill didn’t feel threatened that his
opportunities might evaporate.
“I looked at it more along the lines that we could be more successful and hopefully get the chance to play finals,” Pinwill said.
“If I was able to get a game it would be in a more successful team, which is a lot more enjoyable. I would prefer to
play a smaller role in a successful team than a larger role in an unsuccessful team.
“I’ve viewed it as a definite positive.” After missing much of the preseason due to overseas travel, Pinwill had to work extremely
hard to force his way back into the seniors.
However, he has plenty of support to call upon, especially from among the Chargers’ fraternity.
Hopefully a few of his mates follow him.
He kicked 16 goals for the year and featured in the best players 15 times.
Sounds very promising.
