I'm sick of the commenators making excuses, saying Hussey was "unlucky". He was freaking robbed and it was a disgrace, don't be easy on him.

It's not Rudi's fault, it is his employers that keep giving him a job, doesnt matter how bad he is, how many mistakes he makes, he keeps getting a job, problem is all the best umpires are Australian so we will never get them

Rudi is really embarrassing himself now. The guy shouldn't be allowed to umpire cricket at any level let alone Test level. He gets worse and worse in each Test he officiates in. If you were a friend or family member now would be the time to sit him down and nicely explain to him it's time to give it away. It would be the kind thing to do.

Great thread. I completely agree. Test cricket deserves top umpires, and he is rubbish now.

All I'll say is I think Australia have seen enough of Rudi over the past 3-4 years. He's here so often he may as well build a house here.

It's pretty rough to get personal about the guy. He's doing the best he can. If you really want to get upset then get upset at the situation that allows umpiring standards to be less than their best.

All around the world there is a stigma associated with umpiring. What kids would take it up even if they were half interested? There needs to be a push world-wide to promote the idea of umpiring to kids and then do whatever we can to accomodate them. We then need to fast track umpires through the system as their performance deserves and offer whatever help to get them better. It just takes too long for an umpire to go through the system. And it's been left too often to guys who are finished as cricketers themselves. I'd love to see the day 16 year old kids at district level are given the chance to umpire somewhere, even when they are still current players and see them given serious umpiring jobs to do if they prove themselves and decide to go on with it.

IMHO a cricket umpire should be at their best from 25-45, but if you rely on cricketers retiring at 35 and then get them to serve a 5-10 year apprenticeship before they get onto the elite panel then every test umpire will be below their best. Time and time again we see umpires appointed and they are very good. They then deteriorate in performance over 15 years before the ICC finally removes them from the panel. That's where the problem lies IMHO and not with the guys who are asked to travel all over the world (anywhere but home!) to do a job nobody wants but everybody has an opinion on.

But at the end of the day a batsman is to be given out when the umpire has no doubt...
Come on Rudi, you didn't see it hit the bat!!!

instead of just bagging the bloke, why not offer up some solutions as to who is going to replace him. You will never have home umpires because that would have to be the same all over the world in all tests and everyone's "whinge-load" would increase x10. In the last three years Bucknor, Benson and now Rudi have been canned when umpiring in australia, do you just want asad rauf and aleem dar to do all of australia's test matches (could work, we are never going to play pakistan again so no conflict of interest).
I hope to see all of you on here as quickly when a horrible decision goes in favour of the australians instead of just when it goes against them. Hussey has and will get a favourable call in his favour for all the ones he has had go against him.

Rudi was a good umpire. He has now lost it. His reaction time and his decision making is not up to the standard. You can defend all you like but the guy is simply past being able to competently officiate in Test cricket. Unfortunately some people don't know when their time is up and make fools of themselves and Rudi is one of them.

Rudi is finished, he has been umpiring for one year too long.

If a Kiwi batsman had been fired I doubt that this thread would have been opened!

In terms of favourable decisions in home Tests over the years I think the scales are still tipped heavily in the Australia's favour.

Australia will still win the Test.

The problem is not with which team receives the bad decisions it is with the fact that he keeps making bad decisions both ways. He is incompetent.

No offence crippy but do some reading. Many suggestions have been posted on this site about what to do about the standard of world umpiring.

Agree with all 3 points WOF.

Also is it a coincidence that as TV technology has advanced over the years that umpires have become worse and we (The TV viewer) have become better lounge chair umpires?

Just on Rudi, the thing that shitts me the most about him is the excruiciatingly slow finger raising when giving dismissals. FFS just stick the bloody finger up and stop drawing attention to yaself.
