Believe it. For the same reason that the govt is pouring money into banks to keep them solvent, and into the dollar to keep it buoyant.
It must be nice to have a business whose service is so essential that you can afford to run that company with reckless abandon, safe in the knowledge that the government will not let your business go under, no matter how badly you screw it over.

Oops. Was thinking more of the septic government bailing out financial institutions over there; though the govt here has at least guaranteed deposits. It boils down to the same reason that kids centres will be kept afloat here: the social cost of letting them sink would be far greater than the monetary cost in keeping them running. Like I said, must be nice to be in charge of such businesses.
