The Raggies were really good today totally dominating Flinders Park. With a few back after the break they are looking good.

Alright guys and girls, tips for this week...

Salisbury vs Athelstone (we're missing a few but we'll give it a shake)
Pembroke OS vs Old Ignatians (Pembroke are quality, will give the top 3 a shake come finals)
Payneham NU vs Eastern Park (PNU remembered how to win last round, they'll be alright)
Flinders Park vs PAOC (Might be closer than some people think)
Walkerville vs Pooraka (Pooraka are just struggling)

Is it true that McIntosh gave a half time address from Tasmania?

Their Juniors, numbers & performance, have improved out of sight, a lot of northern folk abandoning the the other juniors assc in favour of the NEMJFA I'm told.

Talks are underway for a divisional comp, along the lines of the Amateur League, for the northern suburbs - an amalgamation of CDJFL and NEMJFL I believe.

Will you be wearing 14?

I usually have to get going pretty much straight after the game (to do things back at the Club before awards) but we'll see how we go.

Cheers.

As if a couple of the head honchos in the NEMJFA would go for that. They would'nt be able to gain access to the association players list to poach them in off season to their club.

Yeah mate I wore 14, hardly got near it though. Up half of Friday night chucking my guts up and I sturggled hard during the game. Full credit to your guys though, they completely blew us away in the second half, as a top team probably should. Abell's move to full-forward at half-time was a stroke of genius on Tod Barabas' part, how many did he end up with?

I wouldn't think the CDJFL would want to merge with NEMJFL. They're a stubborn breed and it would kill them to admit that the NEMJFL is the stronger comp.

You got a few good touches Pag. Luke Abell ended up with 6, 4 of them in the 3rd quarter. Was probably the move that changed the game.

There were some big results. Walkerville pummelled Pooraka and Flinders Park blitzed PAOC. Pembroke are on the march.

Just on the nemjfa and cdjfl merge. No way in my book. I for one can not see any benefit for the nemjfa to be associated with the cdjfl. I know that there are a number of clubs on the nemjfa side that are against it. What would be the benefits?

The biggest benefit is a more even comp - the stronger sides can play against other stronger sides and the less competitive teams can turn up without expecting a 30 goal thumping. I think the idea has a lot of merit and requires proper consideration. It will also allow a pooling of resources/volunteers that are becoming much harder to obtain/retain.

Done properly, it may well be the best thing for junior football. Regardless of how stubborn or pigheaded some of the administartors may be, junior football is what everyone is there for.

Yes very true.... words of wisdom beamed from across the Tasman to inspire us to a VERY lucky win...

Fortunately for us, we've had 5 players come back since that game, we were hamstring city there for a while...

Still not convinced that the merge of the 2 junior comps is the way to go. Junior footy changes a lot from year to year from my experience so a team can be v strong one season and drop off the next or conversely a perceived weaker side can improve dramatically with a different coach and an influx of players. Sure no team likes to get flogged by 30 goals but unfortuantely that will happen from time to time but playing against stronger teams is an opportunity for the kids to hopefully learn and strive to improve. Another big hurdle is the travel. I struggle to get my players to games on time but to have to ask parents to travel from Gepps to Smithfield would be a nightmare (I understand that EPark are in the nemjfa comp but to have to travel that far repeatedly would just be too hard for many parents). Also families with more than one child playing in different age groups would also find it v difficult. Interesting that in my team I have a number of kids that choose to play for clubs in the nemjfa despite living far closer to cdjfa clubs. Why?Pooling resources and the like is a positive but just not a good enough reason for the merge imo. I wonder who put this proposition forward?

Not sure of the origins BM, but both leagues are interested from what I understand. The travel is an issue, I agree, however I think you make too light of the impact a 30 goal belting has on some kids. No one learns - the losing side has players who lose interest (let's face it, can't lose by 30 goals in soccer so let's go play that) and the winning side has players who go through the motions and are not testing themselves.

Your point re: kids who live closer to CDJFL clubs works in reverse too. The association sides I have coached for CDJFL have had kids playing for Salisbury who live in Gepps and the CDFC Development squads I have coahced have had kids who live in CDFC zone playing footy for Gepps or Pooraka. Various things will take kids to a club - even my lad played for Golden Grove when I live in Broadview.

I think it is something that needs open debate and consideration before completely discounting it as an option.

Regarding a possible merger between NEMJFA and CDJFL, there may be NEMJFA clubs considering joining Centrals, just as the strongest CDJFL clubs have quiety asked to join NEMJFA over the last coupe of years. NEMJFA has rejected these overtures, however.

NEMJFA's policy, passed at the AGM in 2004, is no more than 17 Clubs in the Association. There are no vacancies for CDJFL clubs unless a NEMJFA club falls over. There may be a couple of possibilities there.

The reputation of some CDJFL clubs leaves a little to be desired. Why do you think that some Gepps Cross boys come from Elizabeth, Salisbury, Smithfield and Two Wells etc. They refuse to play for a CDJFL club.

Don't be misled into thinking the standard of Jr. footy in the CDJFL is lower than NEMJFA. The two Associations play every year, from Under 9's to 15's. CDJFA has had the better of NEMJFA in recent years.

Finally, a new junior football body would have to be created to replace CDJFA and NEMJFA because, as far as NEMJFA is concerned, NO NEW CLUBS!

Thanks for bringing up that old chestnut Pearcey. You should post more on the Centrals game threads too. Clubs across both leagues have had their troubles - wasn't it only last year that a game at Gepps was interrupted by some kid with a knife? (can't remember the club responsible for the player, apologies to Gepps if they feel slighted by my mentioning them here).

Of course a new body would be required, that is always the case with an amalgamation. Therefore any policy that NEMJFA has is moot.

Cheers
