Hope you don't mind RM but I added a poll to your post.

Ahh, the age old question which we've talked about many times at footysa.

My fav ground is the Bay, mainly because its a small oval with good atmosphere, in a nice area, has a great pub across the road, has plenty of grass for the kids to play on and is the quickest ground to get to from my place. Love watching footy there.

Elizabeth is too big and too far.
Prossie has a great atmosphere but as you said needs a lot of work on facilities.
Alberton has a great surface.
Woodville is picturesque.
Unley has a good atmosphere but I don't like it
Norwood has Coopers and a great atmosphere but is shocking for kids
Adelaide Oval, shit beer, too far away, nazis in charge.
Footy Pk see Adelaide Oval but less atmosphere.
Richmond, ugly, but best BBQ in town
Thebby, awesome, needs heaps of work but I look forward to seeing more games there, very similar atmosphere to Prossie.
Noarlunga shocking but good choice of food, plenty of car parking too.

Football Park
BAD, Concrete jungle, no atmosphere, Run by the Nazi's, can't go on the ground to kick a fotty, can't kick a footy in the outer
GOOD, the toilets work, and................that's it, the toilets work
Adelaide Oval
BAD, Can't go on the ground to kick a fotty, can't kick a footy in the outer, needs at least 5,000 to get atmosphere.
GOOD, Best looking ground in the world
Elizabeth Oval
BAD, Cut lunch and water bag trip
GOOD, Nothing stands out as paticullary good or bad
Prospect Oval
BAD, Southern Toilets, Parking
GOOD, Home of the Mighty Roosters, plenty of room in the outer for the kids
Norwood Oval
BAD, Coopers Draught, Parking
GOOD, Coopers Pale, Vilie's pies
Alberton Oval
BAD, Nothing stands out as paticullary good or bad, I don't mind going there.
GOOD, North seem to keep winning there :D Playing surface is ussually good
Woodville Oval
BAD, "Get your Eagles raffle here" drives everyone nuts, and too many Cows bandwagoner supporters (apologies to the real Eagles supporters)
GOOD, The outer is great for the kids, playing surface is ussually good.
Thebarton Oval
BAD, Games are not played there (except one off)
GOOD, feels like a real footy oval, great atmosphere, tradition etc.
Richmond Oval
BAD, Nothing stands out as paticullary good or bad except BBQ
GOOD, Best BBQ in league
Glenelg Oval
BAD, Portable toilets
GOOD, Parking at school
Unley Oval
BAD, only 1/2 an oval, parking, cold pies, price to get into grandstand, parking, smelly mud.
GOOD,atmosphere
Noarlunga Oval
BAD, Cut lunch and water bag trip, Wind, Rain, Cold, Lack of a "real outer" more like a paddock with a bit of a hill, wind and Cold.
GOOD, Don't have to line up for food, beer or the toilets, Parking

Give me any of the suburban grounds before Adelaide Oval or Nazi Stadium any day.

Very thoughtful analysis Ian. In addition,

Adelaide Oval - Parking costs $7! and I reckon you need another couple of thousand to get a decent atmosphere.
Norwood Oval - Eastern wing is deplorable - asphalt and claustrophobia, but there's always that tiny piece of grass (about 2 square metres) behind the scoreboard.
Woodville Oval - Great venue, large grassed areas, facilities on both sides of the ground. Was even better when they had Cowley's pies.
Footy Park - I'm one of the few that actually likes it. Best surface in the country - great viewing - plenty of facilities. If you take the fact that you have to binge drink at the quarter breaks out of the equation, it's a good venue. Can someone remind me why it is considered evil to take a drink back to your seat again?

I think the SANFL has got it all wrong, if they allowed you to go back to your seat there would be less of a problem, you could go back and have a quiet beer, instead of just standing neer the bar getting plastered.

I asked my lad who does security there on occasions -- seems was either a knee jerk reaction to some fans getting beer spilt down thier backs by others carrying a half dozen cups or ---- done to avoid potential of same.

I do not drink but see no harm in being able to have drink in your seat, as sais better than a swill. :?:

Exactly. No-one seems to be able to tell me what is so bad about having a beer back at your seat. What do they think will happen? There don't seem to be any "incidents" at other grounds around the country. In fact, over the last couple of years, I've only ever heard of half full Coke bottles being thrown about.

If they think other patrons will be offended, then they seriously need to think about banning fat chicks in hipster jeans and crop tops. Yikes.

Sites where you can get a fair bit of info on ovals' stadiums etc;

http://www.worldstadiums.com/oceania/countries/australia/south_australia.shtml

I can't believe Norwood & Unley have a larger capacity than Prospect, Richmond, Glenelg, or Woodville.
Noarlunga & Thebarton don't get a mention.

Footy Park- BAD-No beer in seats, concrete cold. GOOD- Nice playing oval always green and no cricket pitch.
Adelaide Oval-GOOD- favourite oval next the Glenelg, good hillside viewing, easy to get to by train via Casino. BAD- plastic beer cups, not being allowed to kick footy, not being upclose at quatertime hudles.
Broadys- BAD-Beer room a bit far from action. GOOD-I dont dislike it
Prospect- BAD-HArd to get to, cant watch game from bar(seems only GFC you can!!!), sick of hearing the cock.
Elizebeth- BAD-long long way to go- scary by train, crap visitors change room, muddy slush pit. GOOD- Club Central
Scumbelton- GOOD- Didnt dislike it, had a nice meal there. BAD- Its full of Port supporters :) ,BAys havent won there in a long time.
Unley- GOOD- nice scenery on days I have been there. BAD- Never have been there when raining so wont comment yet.
Noarlunga- GOOD- Easy to get to by train. BAD- No much I could list- Freezing cold!!!
Glenelg-GOOD- Best clubrooms to watch reserves before going to hillside.
BAD- Portable toilets, Portable BAr (Bring Back the Snout Bar/BBQ), cold pies b4 halftime-none after. Clubrooms need a good renervation.
Norwood- GOOD-heritage oval, many bars, fine females. BAD- Toilet always dirty, COOPERS beer, cant afford power bill, hard to find way out if locked in.

Yet to go to Theby and Woodville ovals so will have to wait and see. Prehaps a little hard to get to from Warradale area.
Best would be out of Glenelg, Adelaide and Norwood.

I've always been interested that Richmond is sometimes referred to as having too much concrete. There's not much doubt that Prospect has far less grassed areas than Richmond.

The ovals with good surfaces in all conditions are Adelaide, Alberton and Richmond easily. Noarlunga, Elizabeth and Woodville are reasonable. Prospect, Unley and Glenelg are poor. Norwood used to be terrible, but is now very good.

I dont really like football much at all.Adelaide oval is much better. Nice ground to watch footy at. The only ground i dont really like would have to all the way down south, just so dammmmmm cold and windy there.

How is it hard* to get to? The bus stops right outside the ground. At Noarlunga, you have to walk a lot further from the train station to the ground...

PS Wedgie, the Poll is broken & not working right- Prospect isn't winning

I probably enjoy Glenelg Oval the best.

Adelaide Oval, Noarlunga Oval, Glenelg Oval and Richmond Oval are the only venues I go to. So out of the four, Glenelg is probably the one I enjoy the most.

A bit biased but you can't go past the Bay Oval as the best, great atmosphere, lots of grass areas, two stands and you can also sit in the cricketers stand, only bad thing is the toilets need to be upgraded and the food situation needs to be sorted out.

Worst...Alberton for obvious reasons.
