reserves coach -> league coach

Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

reserves coach -> league coach

Postby Pseudo » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:49 pm

With Luke Norman rising from Sturt's reserves coach to the league coaching position, I pose the question: who else has graduated from reserves coach to league coach at the same club?

The only bloke I can immediately think of is Brenton Honor. I hope that Norman has better fortune than BH! Though it could be argued that BH carried his form into the senior coaching position, and if Norman does the same then Sturt will win the flag. :lol:

There must be others. Who else?

Wasn't Wayne Weideman the Reserves Coach under Shaun Rehn and then got the League job in 2006?

Thiele confirmed - Yay for me.

R. Fuller was the 17's coach before being the League coach. I know it was reserves but still.

Tony Burgess was Reserves Coach for 16 games at the Bay before becoming League coach for a few games - does that count, Pseudo?

Well that would be a first: Reserves Coach to League Coach to Reserves Coach all in 7 weeks.

Barrie Barbary at Woodville in the early 70's.

Wayne Jackson at West Torrens in the early 70's.

John McInnes took charge of Sturt while Jack Oatey was ill.

Gary Window was captain coach of the Reserves at Central in the early 70's, went to coach the Reserves at Westies, then got the top job at Elizabeth.

I thought John coached the Woodville Reserves before landing the South League role. Although he coached both Reserves & League, the teams weren't at the same Club.

I believe Stephen Trigg did the same in the early 1990's.
