Mail footy

Thought the Sunday Mail's 4 pages on country footy season wrap-up on Oct 28 was first rate.
About time we got that sort of coverage. Loved the stories on Trent Ormond-Allen, Kym Koster and Jared Poulton who are all playing in the bush.
Good job!

I reckon they can do better.
I'd rather see features and country updates throughout the season.
Wouldn't it be great to see stories on blokes playing their 400th games? Blokes who've survived life threatening injuries to get back to playing? Stories on the local volunteers who make the game?
In fact I'd like to see stuff on all grassroots footy throughout the season.
It'd be good to see our major state papers linking with the grassroots community better.
Average blokes. If you think about how many people out there play grassroots footy, there are plenty of stories to write...

I can put them on to someone who is passionate about grassroots footy and would be very happy to write about it for a living ;)

I was a bit disappointed to be honest, to focus on those three. How about Brett James who has played more SANFL and AFL footy than these blokes and has gone back to coach Kersbrook for the last two years?

Alot of yarns about other former AFL/SANFL players has already appeared in the Mail's "Heartyland of Heroes" mag which appeared in April this year and last year.
Some great yarns about the James boys, Chris Prime (ex-Norwood, now Tumby Bay), Rod Maynard (Crows, Lameroo), the Coober Pedy foort club whichh has to travel 410km one way to play in the Woomera comp, Tyson Edwards (Crows, Wynarka), 6ft2in kid called Warrick McGinty who plays at Kongorong and is a handy basketballer and so on...
Only pity is the mag only appears in the country editions.

there is no team called roxby downs, the teams in the wdfl are roxby districts miners, hornridge magpies, andamooka roos, coober pedy saints (i think) and the team trent played for is the olympic dam devils.
