2006 SANFL Fixture

All discussions to do with the SANFL

If you can get your "neutral" games at Thebarton and your "away" games at Adelaide you're doing very well CD.
Not taking money into account I'd expect the Eagles to have an even bigger home ground advantage at Thebarton than at Woodville.
For some reason North "lost" one of its home games at Prospect to a game against the Eagles at Thebarton!!!

Luckily North have a great away record and a crap home record in recent times so I'm not going to whinge.

As I said I have given the technicalities of the draw or explanations of how our games have been designated - whether counted as home, away or neutral
We have 9 designated home games (7 Woodville, 1 moved to Adelaide, 1 moved to Thebarton)
2 neutral (Thebarton)
9 away - 8 suburban and 1 at Adelaide (Anzac day)

Surely you give me points for trying Wedgie!
(I dont think we can whinge either)

I love the idea of playing under lights at Elizabeth. Hope they're able to keep the helicopters still.

Not exactly an innovation, they happened all the time in the mid to late 80s but they were all at Footy Pk.

You could call it an innovation in this day and age though... couldn't you? :)

Norwood, West, Central, North - 1st Home Game in Round 1
Port, Glenelg, South, Sturt - 1st Home Game in Round 2
Eagles - 1st Home Game in Round 7, that's right SEVEN

Noone can tell me this is fair. And Rosser says he's spent 6 months working on this draw. It can't be that hard to make it even.

Also, the most lucrative of the Thebarton Oval games (against Port) is a nuetral match (what a surprise, all the money to the SANFL).

One of the reasons it is important for fans to know how games have been designated is for those who like to have home match tickets.
These tickets are important to the clubs as the money stays with the club.

Home match tickets for WWTFC get you in to
Round 3 v Norwood at Adelaide
Round 11 v Glenelg at Thebarton
and 7 games at Woodville

will not get you in for the Thebarton games v North or Port

Wedgie - do you have a list for the other clubs who dont play 9 games at their own oval as some other games must be designated as home games?

(Being fair Eagles first home match is Round 3 if i stick to my explanations - Eagles06)

It's a good job I get a season ticket, don't have to worry about such things.

What I'd like to know cd is what the club thinks of having no Woodville game till round 7, surely we protested???

As I said, Eagles usually play most of the matches at Woodville before Round 11, so this is a change of some sorts. Whether they are home or neutral games, we virtually have 10 home games, can't complain about that.

The summary of minor round Double Header matches over the years are as follows:
1983: 2 (First one in R11)
1984: 0
1985: 4
1986: 9
1987: 8
1988: 8
1989: 7
1990: 3
1991: 2
1992: 7
2000: 1

The first major round double header was in 1991 - the EF and QF. The first and second semi of that year were separate.
From 1992 onwards the first two weeks of the finals have been double headers, except 2003 being single semi-finals.
The first double header match at Adelaide - either finals or minor round was in 2004.

Port have got an absolute shocker, playing North, Eagles and Centrals 3 times and 9 away games.
I suppose that's fair considering they had a great draw this year.

There is no real conspiracy re who you play 2 or 3 times.

Basically over the course of 2 seasons (40 games) everybody plays their 8 opponents 5 times,
4 teams twice in year one, 3 times the next year
4 teams three times in year one, 2 times the next year.

Port went from having a tough draw in 2003 (Eagles #3 West #2 & Central #1 x3)
to any easier draw in 2004 (Glenelg #7, South #8, Sturt #5 & Norwood #6 x 3)
to a very tough draw again in 2005 (Eagles, Central & North x3) with only West considered an easy team.

Of course based on 2004 results even if everyone plays everybody elses the same number of time Central will have an easier draw then West because the Bulldogs don't have to play themselves.

I'm suprised noone's arked up about the fact the Grand Final is on a Sunday with no public holiday the next day!!!!!

For the life of me I have no idea why the SANFL are obsessed with Sunday finals.
99% of the time Saturday finals don't clash with any AFL finals as they're more at night these days.
Have the prelim on a Friday night before the AFL GF and have the GF on a Saturday for christ's sake!!!
Keeps the fans happy, keeps the ABC happy, keeps the players and clubs happy, god knows who is kept happy with the current schmozzle.

Eagles-06
Agreed season tickets are great value and of course get you in to all minor round games.

All clubs put in wish lists and you get some things and not others with the draw.

Overall the Eagles draw is pretty good - a good run home with Woodville games.

I'm disappointed the league didn't take a chance and schedule a night final.

Tradition is one thing, but do we really want to hold on to tradition when there's only sub 5,000 crowds through the gate?

Two games at Unley for Eagles - nice, especially if they are in wet conditions. :)

Full marks for the SANFL in giving things a go. Good analysis, Wedgie. My own effort in figuring out the draw is usually on a week-to-week basis when I drag out my season pass.

That said, pity Centrals don't get to Thebby this year. I'm loking forward to the four night games at NAP. The light towers have been hooked up and are quite impressive. Apparently the lux will make Maralinga look like a picnic.

Let's just hope they don't continue with those Tim Shaw tv ads. There's a good start in addressing crowd concerns.
