Miscellaneous Off Season Questions

Postby Squawk » Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:45 pm

1. Is SA playing WA in perth in 2009, and if so, should we get Jars on board with OUR state team ASAP so he can scout for us while he is over there? No doubt the WAFL will be equally keen to pick his brain on SANFL players so I reckon we get in first and early.

2. Is the Mouse the new "boss" of the SANFL Players Association? ( I think Prendegast is heading back to Victoria).

3. What do people think about a SANFL footy club forging a partnership with a large Assemblies of God Church, including sending 2 players to Africa on a church mission?

1 - Jars is a Sandgroper now
2 - Not SANFL Players Association - VFL Past Players' Association (ps nobody puts the s apostrophe in)
3 - What?

Squawk, the South Africa trip for players Craig Parry and James Boyd will provide great insight to another peoples cuture and struggle and these experiences will be bought back and shared with others in club. Nothing sinister about it ,SAFC is trying everything to link itself in with the broader community down south as it should whether this be through Council, Community groups or Church.

"Rumour" is that the particular Church in question - Edge Church (Assemblies of God) now supplies a Chaplain to the SAFC and that two board members of the club are members of the said church.

Perhaps the hope is the "power of prayer" will get them into the finals in 2009, even if nothing else would...

Just my personal opinion but I don't believe any sports club should align itself with a specific religion or religeous group. It creates sectarianism and that is still a massive problem here with Scottish soccer clubs (not just the obvious Celtic/Rangers either) despite attempts by parliament and the Scottish FA to get rid of it.

If the Legs do the same I'd seriously consider not renewing my membership.

I reckon the biggest question is when will Centrals finally stop having stick on numbers on the back of their jumpers? Surely they have the cash to be able to buy their jumpers with numbers already on them?
