I would also suggest that the cash spent these days does nothing for the professionalism of the competition. It means there are some hard working comittee members fundraising for the $$$.

I don't believe the standard of football would be any different to 10, 20 or 30 years ago, but I reckon the blokes enjoyed themselves more in days gone by when the cash wasn't around.

Will be very intersting to see if the current 'financial crisis' has any impact on clubs profits....particularly through less bar takings. Could mean some tighter budgets for recruiting...perhaps not this year, but next.

but then again with the financial crisis the way it is i wonder if players are going to be more demanding with $$$ - eaither way it could work pros and cons for each football club wanting to succeed - i just hope that the supporters keep on comming and the level of the hills comp continues to rise

Cant say I'm at all surprised shanty, when the going gets tough he takes the easy option and jumps ship and goes to another club, sounds just like his footy this season this year.

Agree Newman, Bateman is the biggest hack in the hills. Would not play A grade at any other club in Central Division except Lobethal. Sounds like the club is better off without the likes of him.

Too harsh Ted, Matt has been a loyal servant for the Raiders since his junior days, he's just a victim of the circumstances, lost all his confidence, in the club and the possibility of playing finals footy.

Although I think it's best he moves on, I just wish him some success, I hope his new club is not a mirror image of Bridgewater, which could well be the case.

Bit harsh on Baters there guys. You have to be a pretty talented footballer to win a mail medal which he did in under 17's.
I wish him all the best, a bit of change will be good for him and I hope he does get to play finals footy out at meadows next year.
just hope he doesn't have the bad luck which plagued him last year and doesn't get mauled by any more koalas!

Spoke to a bloke from North Adelaide on the weekend he reckons Ryan McGahey is on $700 with the Roosters. Also said Daniel Ebert and a ruckman from North Adelaide are heading to Uraidla. Chris Ladhams and Daniel Hargreaves playing for Nhill for $1200 per game. Apparently they tied Andy Ladhams into the deal so he can be the driver!

I can assure you monte, he's not on $700 a week.

And I think the ruckman heading to Uri is Down.

He does have a big reputation to uphold. And is he going to be playing half back or on ball at meadows?
