Just a heads up that ESPN are showing Stanford 20/20 games this week starting this morning (Sunday) at about 7:30am on pretty much every day. There's an hour long highlights show nightly at 6:30pm.

Well the Stanford 20-20 is a competiton involving the countries of the West Indies created by this Texan Billionaire. With the IPL taking off he then went to the England board and they agreed to set this competition up (also involving the West Indies board) called the Stanford 20-20 For 20. The winning team gets $US20 million prize money to be split amongst themselves and their respective board. This is the first year of the five year agreement of this version of the competiton.

What is the go there? Does "England" need to select a squad? Or would they be able to pick any English player...
That could get tricky, like the "Tri-series" debacle with Aus and Aus A...

All teams needed to select a squad of 15 before the tournament. Any Middlesex player (eg Ali Cook) good enough to make the England team has. Only England and the Superstars get to play in the $20 million game.

Interesting story here, Stanford sounds like an A-grade tosswit.

Big Deal
A multi millionaire puts up absurd money
Like the IPL I had absolutely no desire to watch this garbage

I dont mind watching the Australian Domestic 20/20 comps
Where our own players play in a viable competition for proper teams, mainly for pride.

IPL is just a ringa ringa posey compilation of players all playing for the mighty dollar
Stanford was EG V WI , if it was for pride I would have watched the game
But it was a money hungry barstaadisation game of cricket

The 20/20 concept is fine and entertaining to watch, its the value of the $$$ not the passion of the game that irks me

The IPL as REB has said will ruin the fabric of cricket
Indian crowds for the AU/IN Test series are well down this tour, dont have to spell out why !

You can debate the merits of Twenty/20 cricket but I certainly enjoyed watching the highlights of this match tonight knowing a few of those poor West Indian cricketers are now instant millionaires. The Poms laid a massive egg in that game. The IPL is pretty good to watch too especially being able to cheer on the likes of Warnie, Boof etc.

Twenty/20 cricket has nothing to do with passion/playing for the spirit etc, it's all about one thing only and that's money. Doesn't matter if it's the Stanford 20-20, IPL/ICL or international matches.
