WA V TA O/D GAME AND DUCKWORTH LEWIS + MAY-Z

Postby mal » Fri Oct 24, 2008 11:15 pm

TA 9/222 [45]
TA were 0/72 [11] when it rained
5 overs reduced
That rain delay killed the momentum as TA scored 9/150 in the last 34 overs faced

WA
1/17
2/21
3/32[12.2]
At this stage TA had this game in the bag
3/50 after 15 overs
If it rained now TA would have won by about 30 runs ?
MAY -Z would have carried on that TA deserved to win [!!!!!!!]
4/73 [19]
Enter the Golden Greek Theologos Doropolous
This is the guy that smashed the flattest 6 Ive seen in years at Adelaide Oval last season of Rhino
The ball landed in the Chappell stand hit a plastic seat , broke it, the broken plastic landed inches away from me, I still have it in case he plays for Australia !

Then this happened

GOLDEN GREEK 86* [74]
BANDY 1* [3]
WA 6/205
41.5 OVERS BOWLED

The Golden Greek smassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshes a 6 over long on 92*[75]
WA 5/211 [42]
12 off 17 needed[on TV they said 16 needed off 18 balls how ???]
It rains, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhno
DUCKWORTH LEWIS if the game ends NOW has WA winning by 1 run
WA 5/211 [42]

BUT
IF
IF
IF
IF
IF
IF
GOLDEN GREEK hits a 4 and not a 6 TA win by 1 run at the comparative stage if the game stops
How does a team needing less than a run a ball lose if he hit a 4 ?????

The game resumes losing 2 overs
The equation is WA need 1 run off 6 balls to win
Now TA have been ripped off

GOLDEN GREEK run out of the first ball
BANDY hits a 6 2nd ball
WA win
WA 6/217 [42.2]
made less runs but won[but I can handle this as both sides faced plenty of overs]

________________________________________________________________________________

MAYZ
For about 41.5 overs off this innings TA was beating WA if the game was stopped by rain on D/L system
For 251 balls TA were in front
By over 42 and that 6, WA led for the first time in the innings on the D/L system by 1 run
By the time the game finished WA led for only 3 balls in this game
BUT THE SIDE THAT WAS LOSING THIS GAME EASILY ALL NIGHT ENDED UP WINNING
_________________________________________________________________________________

So next time a side is 1/60 [15.5] chasing 206 we should not assume the 1/60 team is a certainty and deserved to win
1/60 wins most games but not all
This WA V TA game proved how o/d games can change in a twinkling of an eye
Both sides in the WA /TA game faced enough overs for a fair D/L adjudication
When sides make 60 runs and are gifted a win that is utter crapppppppppppppppppppppp!

What's the solution mal?

Mine is to treat the limited overs format as not particularly significant thus deeming the results relatively meaningless. Who cares how they come up with the result. There is so much luck involved in limited overs cricket anyway it really doesn't matter.

Its not the solution
D/L is OK sometimes
D/L is a farce when a side makes 60 runs to win that is not a solution.
If the WA/TA game was called off at 60 runs for WA , TA win by plenty [and then lost!!!!]

When was the last time a domestic game was umpired by 2 former Australian test cricketers? Considering their backgrounds, it was no surprise to see some leniency for the bowlers in relation to borderline wides not being called!!

PAUL REIFFEL
BLOCKER WILSON

More trivia
Shaun MARSH played in the WA/TA game, flys out to India soon
If he gets a gig in India I reckon it will be the 2nd Father/Son AU test cricketers combo ever
I reckon Gregory was a father /son act about 100 years ago

We were well placed after Drop brought us back into the game. When we lost our 4th wicket, we were in trouble but the result was fitting in hindsight as before the last rain delay we needed a run a ball with plenty of wickets in hand.

Chopper's six was a fitting way to end the game and if ithe match remained at 45 overs a side, the equation would have been more obviously skewed our way.
