So have any clubs actually signed any new faces to the league yet or is it all a case of just talk at the moment? Boozehound and The Big Shrek must have the inside info as they are the only ones that seem to know whats happening.......
So has there been any pen to paper?

You would think most clubs would want their lists finalised asap as i have heard there are many players being sought by 4 or different clubs which usually means first in best dressed if the offer is right.
Usually lots of rumours regarding virginia`s imports this time of year but not much coming through at the moment?

Yep, Fester. Along with that 'your full of shit' comment you made but didn't back up with any examples. Come up with something worth reading.

Hazbeen wrote:Import rule by population sucked, yes Balaklava has a high population but not considered is the number of players from other clubs (yes I'm looking at you Ace and MC) who live in the town.

Number of imports should be based on a combination of three factors; population, last years placing and average placing over a set period e.g. 5 years.

Sorry Hazbeen, couldn't let this slide! Maybe it's up to each club to look after the players in it's population base and make their local club an attractive proposition! Always a constant whinge by the Peckers over the years. The fact of the matter is, in years gone by unless you had a "name" you could find yourself playing every 3 or 4 weeks as a junior, which makes it an easy decision to play for the Tigers or Eagles where you would get a game every week. May not be the case these days, but you reap what you sow...

And while I'm going, a couple of problems with this post! Firstly, when have United ever known when to stand up???!!!! They mustn't have felt like they had to for a while! And maybe a little respect for the reigning premiers??? I hear a new coach has already been signed! And it's not Jazz, which he is most relieved about!

Peckers talking to prospective imports.

Allowed 5 next year, had a possible 4 this year but only filled 3 (Levi, Scott and Catford)

Levi and Scott to return, Catford now classed as a local, looking to fill other 3 spots.

Matt Oliver to hopefully return from the Riverland to play as a local plus Freddy Walker back from a year off with a broken leg.

AJ Michael to coach again.

RMFL

Jervios Panthers 14
Imperials 7
Ramblers 6
Mannum 7
Mypolonga 6
Tailem Bend 9
Meningie 5

Alot of these are or have been long term imports which is a GREAT THING FOR THE CLUBS INVOLVED. Also clubs such as Tailem have so many because of the points system. They simply cant afford to spend 4 points on a player when they r really struggling for numbers just to keep their club alive. Must get 2-3 players for those 4 points, there for not getting the Quality unless they get lucky (Lynch).

have heard the possibility of a few hummocks buys hanging the boots up after last years premiership. Any truth to that rumour? If so they would need to get on the recruiting band wagon as they havent got a real talented b grade or junior side at the moment.

I'm just waiting for the abuse to start observer. I've mentioned something similar in the past and Fester will call you full of shit while Ace gets a little angsty.

And now that I've read the rest of the page, I see the Big Shrek has picked up the magpie on United's ability to stand up! Good to see. Will be sure to read everything before commenting in future. Point about the reigning premiers still stands though!

Yeah it was a funny statement. Apparently spending money like it's going out of fashion, making the finals then bombing out is 'standing up when it's needed'. People use that phrase with Central Districts, it could also probably be applied to Hummocks, Mt Lofty(3 in a row), Morphett Vale(4 in a row, GF this year) and Willunga(5 in a row). Not Long Plains.

yeah fair point shrek...i wasn`t criticising Hummocks in any way i think they have done a fantastic job for many years and have also won finals when no- one thought they could. I think 2009 will be interesting and we may see a couple of new teams in the finals race.

Hummocks have appointed Mark Brandt from Gawler Centrals!
Liam Whitwell is the front runner to replace Keith Earl at Mallala.
Shayne Broad to stay on at United.

I wonder whether Brandt will bring many players with him. It could open a few doors player wise with Brandt knowing a lot of guys who are off the APFL radar.

Mark Brandt talks well but struggles to recruit players of any value. Plenty of coaches around like that!

He might try to raid Seaton Ramblers or PHOS, a couple of his old clubs. Not a lot to pinch from Ramblers though.
Now that is just plain dumb, don't you think?
