Domestic 08/09...early thoughts

Postby Rik E Boy » Thu Oct 16, 2008 12:40 pm

I reckon you blokes are hosting this year's Sheffield Shield winners while up here at the Gabba I saw this years Franger winners in the Tassie Tigers.

Tasmania have depth to burn in the 50 over format and field like, well, Tigers. Tassie have an excellent spread of youth and experience and a well balanced attack that combines spin, pace and swing. If you beat the Tigers this year in the Franger then your mob is having a very good day indeed.

In the Shield I reckon the Vics will be tough to beat with that batting lineup of theirs.

As for the rest, NSW look very green and while WA have improved I don't think they can overtake Tassie and the Vics. Qld are in all sorts despite an impressive Shield opener and the Redbacks are well, the Redbacks but the Vics are top opposition as I said earlier.

To be honest, I couldn't care less.

All I hope for is a couple of young talents to emerge to go on to play for Australia.

Well, i hope the Redbacks improve and become competitive and maybe win a few games.

The winners will probably be Victoria or a "new look" New South Wales side.

I hope this years competition is evenly poised and has some great cricket involved!

Nah, the Bluebaggers won't win any silverware next year but it won't take long for us to become a dominant force again. Some truly exciting talent is beginning to emerge over there. Can't wait till they come up to the Gabba so I can have a squiz.

the only talent coming out of South Australia is Callum Ferguson (who i believe will have a belter of a year), Shaun Tait obviously and Chadd Sayers who despite consecutive runner ups in the Bradman medal can not get a game in the Redbacks side. What about giving the youth ago instead of bringing over discards such as Wise?

did you see his bowling figures in the 2nd XI game this week 0 for 60 off 15 and 0 for 70 off 10   Sadly I think Sayers will only ever be a good A grade bowler and a terrible 1st class material

It just further emphasises the poor condition our district cricket is in. Too many clubs= Too many players not up to the standard getting a game= Too big of a gap for when players get to state level.

Good to see the Warriors are still under all your collective radars ...

Good form in the Shield with 12 points out of 12
One out of two in the FRC, with only a 10-over blip in the game against NSW resulting in losing our unbeaten record.

The batsmen have stood up (defying the critics who said we have no batsmen) so far and the bowlers are faring well.

Inside Cricket's predictions were obviously done by a coin toss with no information about the current WA squad - but if we are under the radar long enough it then it could be to late for the other states!

Give me a break. The Blueboys were all over you in that match until Brett Dorey brought you back to life in the end. You've also played two home games in the Shield and against Tassie Hilfanhaus was injured so I wouldn't be off to the shops for the Brasso just yet.
