Me again....

On a serious note.....and having been asked questions.... especially re the juniors turning success into the senior grades... I have done some thinking/research in the past hour or so....

About 18 of the 21 who played in the last game of the season all played juniors for McLaren.

Can any other clubs in the GSFL match that ?? :-k

We have boys at south..... in Redigolo, Powell, Young, Crate.

5 or 6 Senior Colts played seniors this year

So when you look at it.... mostly juniors have stayed.... done well within our club.... but I think we have had a large number of players very much the same build, small ,slight ,running players......No real talls in the last 4 years and no real physical strength.

In the last 6 years only Willunga and McLaren have won premierships
Willunga 5
McLaren 1

I know we haven't made the finals in the past couple of years... but we're working on it... as is everyone else. O:)

Tell me Mr Magoo do Mclaren have a Miss Mclaren? If so maybe when you get to meet Dale you should ask him about Miss Morphett Vale or better yet ask Steve because thats who he wanted to knock out that night

Hey Postman Pat
I understand Steve doesnt want to impose his kids on the team next year. He wants to settle in first and then bring them over.

Let me tell you something Postman,Dale spent 5 years at Flagstaff Hill and 4 years at Emu Land,The only 2 clubs he has coached at in the last 16 years. And as for the Miss Morphies Nite, yes he was pissed and yes he got into verbal blue after a junior parent had a go at him for the 3rd time and Steve was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Those are the facts.
If the only reason you play is for a beer with your mates after the game, your playing for the wrong reasons !!

Hey Postman i dont think you know what your on about. Steve left Morphies cos he thought it was his time to go, another of his reasons was his son that plays A grade (not sure of his name). In the previous years his son has achieved some pretty high things in the Southern league ie. association teams, and he has always felt as though he got those honours because his dad was involved. Steve does not want to continue coaching his son, he wants his son to play on his own so he can really experience the joy of his success and not feel as though its because of his dad.

From what i have seen, the juniors that have come up in the last couple of seasons that are keen to play seniors, do a full pre-season and have a fair crack at it. :D
But, there is also the few that come up in the last couple of seasons, that have major tickets on themselves, don't do a pre-season, rock up to training when they feel like it, don't go to any preso nights, get the shits when they are not selected and they give up. Gee, i wonder why they are'nt given a go  !!!
Are you one of these players PR, if so, do something about it and have a crack instead of coming on here and having a cry. You might be surprised in how much time senior coaches have for juniors that are willing to train and do the hard things, instead of just rocking up and expecting to just walk into a team. 8)

Sounds like you are a bit jealous of Steve coming over to our club Postman. Just because he has changed clubs, doesn't mean he is going to demand that his sons come over aswell. I'm sure it is only Shane that is playing seniors, what grade do his younger ones play? Shane probably has good mates down there and has settled himself into a spot in the senior team. I know Steve would never demand that he comes with him.
We will surely love him to come over when the great Morphy Train finally de-rails, and all hell breaks loose down there, you Morphy Bum  !

Postman,If Steves lads want to play at a club that their farther coaches you must respect that as it is their farther!
As for Shane being under his farthers wing I dont think so he is a quality player and with or without his farther coaching!
As for Jake and Matt I would of thought that playing with Mclarens minis would be a perfect fit.
Dont be bitter and burn any bridges as we are all just on a journey as Steve has and left M/Vale with fond and lasting memories and lets hope his journey to Mclaren is a successfull one and one day his journey may take him back to M/Vale. Remember one of our great sons left (Bazz) and all wished him well and maybe his journey will lead back home one day.

KK ....

I can't speak for previous years, but from last year I can't think of any of the boys that went up from Juniors to Seniors who had 'ticket's on themselves and expected to walk into a game without putting in the hard yards.

I think we have to remember that It's a pretty big step going from Senior colts to seniors in a lot of ways, you're right about the committment, that steps up a lot more notches.. but also ... this is where the boys find themselves 17/18 years old who have to leave school and start their careers, or go to uni etc, etc... and some will stop playing altogether... others hopefully find their way back once things have settled down.

So there's a lot of life factors in the mix as well.

And yes I am speaking from personal experience here as this has been the case with my son... had all good intentions to play senior footy this year just gone, but was holding down a traineeship plus 2 other jobs... something had to give...and also alot of his friends had the same issues so stopped playing...... so he made the decision to have a year off......and yes I was devistated for him (and me  ) because football had always been his life and I just couldn't imagine him not doing it..... but as lots of people said to me at the time.... it wouldn't hurt him to have a year off having played since the age of 8 years old.... and looking back they were right..... because I can tell you (having dumped one of those jobs and now in a nice 'life' routine) that he is as keen as ever to play footy again next year... has even started getting himself fit.

Another reason I can't wait till next season O:)

Hi A Mum,

I totally agree with all you have said as it is very hard coming out of Juniors and then try to play seniors footy the next year.
There's always going to be guys who are going to have other things in their life which are more important like job, family, girls etc.

What KK was saying is correct though as there are a few guys that probably think they are a lot better than they really are.
They comeout a week or two before the first trial games and then spit it when they aren't getting a game at the start of the year. Your never going to get the fitness or confidence from doing two weeks of the pre season.

I really do hope your oldest son comes back out to play as we definately missed him out there this year roving the packs. :D

Thanks E23 O:)

I miss watching him !!! :(

I can tell you he is really keen.... did have moments over the last couple of months where friends were trying to coax him to another club... but he's now made up his mind and set his sights on playing where he always has.

I can see KK's point too and I know that you've got those kids as well (but yeah, I still can't think of any from last year)..... but I just wanted to point out I suppose and set the record straight that just in case anyone thought so my son wasn't one of them :D
