Sturt were good early but faded when the business end of the season arrived. They were beaten by the dogs and Glenelg when it really counted. April premiers hah

Another flag next year and they would've matched Norwood's total flags since WWII...

Norwood won most of their flags when the SANFL was equal to any other footy competition in Australia, at a time when there was dinkum competition.

I absolutely agree with this. To me, comparing Port's flag in 99 (not getting into the whole PAMFC/Port Adelaide pre 1991 debate), was probably only half (or even less) as satisfying as a premiership won before 1991.

Its all to do with the fact that the SANFL is no longer the number 1 standard football comp in the state (not taking into account that SANFL is arguably more watchable than the AFL), and the fact that the majority of the elite SA born footballers were all playing in the SANFL pre 1991, which certainly isn't the case today.

There was also none of this rubbish with players playing when dropped from another comp (ie the AFL), and subsequently qualifying for finals after playing 3 games. Pre 91 all players in the competition were fully committed SANFL players, with the goal of winning games/premiership with their SANFL club, not playing well to impress their AFL club.

It's easier to compare pre 1991 with post 1991, if you can remember pre 1991. ;)

I don't think the standard of the SANFL has improved this year from the last few. And this is going on the amount of matches where afterwards on here people have said what a scrappy game/boring game etc; not the performances I've seen from the Eagles.

Same old crap i have heard over the years blah blah blah blah what it boils down to the power house clubs of the past cannot match the present power house clubs ie Central the Eagles.

In the old days there no salary cap thats why your Ports,Sturt and Norwoods were the elite clubs because financially they were stronger and could recrit the best players going around at the time compared to a young cashless Central District club.

However times have changed, Central is now a financially strong club and the old established clubs are just a hopeless rabble who have not adapted to the 20th century.

In other words if yee say that it is weak competition why can't the above teams make a Grand Final ??? because they are piss weak !!!

End of story.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFF.

Hit em hard let them get up and hit em again.

Don’t be stupid or arrogant all dynasties come to an end, lets enjoy this win and hope we get to the grand final next year. On the day anything can happen just look at 1996 and 2002 on both occasions the mighty dogs had beaten their opponents 4 times (Port and Sturt) to nil before the grand final and lost. Let’s not take for granted and assume we will be there as we are the hunted and another 8 teams plus all their supporters do not want us to make it again. Another team in recent years had plenty of success and they were arrogant and always assumed they would be there on the last day in September now the 1st week in October. Please Bulldog supports do not behave like them, lets be humble and proud of our success.

I wouldn't describe the outcome of Sturt's Preliminary Final performance as a loss, more like a thumping !!

If Sturt are warm favourites for 09, then the Bays must be hot favourites and the Doggies would be boiling favourites

sturtpeter, you have no idea sometimes, hang on, all the time

Not to mention the fact we have already been looking at quite a few quality recruits as well...

The CDFC is looking at its new recruits that haven't been announced yet?

PS - Care to enlighten us all with some names of the recruits that you're looking at, or is this one of those general comments that we all seem to make this time of the year?

I could name a few players but don't want to give too much away...

I will say they are from Tassie and are continuing the stong connection between the Apple Isle and Doggie land...

We were looking at the Cheep guy from Geelong but the Eagles beat us to it...

Although it wouldn't be a recruit as such, Eddie Sansbury is expected to come back to Elizabeth after his delisting by the Kangaroos...
